The Penguin's New Trailer Shows Life In Gotham After The Batman

Oswald Cobblepot is calling the shots now in The Penguin, but the mob is pushing back in this spin-off from The Batman.

While The Batman – Part II has been pushed back to October 2026, fans won't have to wait long to see what's next for Gotham City. Max's upcoming spin-off show, The Penguin, features Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot from The Batman. Now, the second teaser trailer for the series has revealed that Gotham remains devastated by Riddler's coordinated attacks on the city. And that's just the opportunity that Oswald needs to seize control of the criminal underworld.

The trailer introduces Clancy Brown as imprisoned mob boss Salvatore Maroni, as he gets a visit from Oswald so the latter can tell the former that he'll be calling the shots in Gotham now. There may not be much that Maroni can do about that from behind bars, but the late Carmine Falcone's children are another matter. Alberto Falcone (Michael Zegen) expresses his anger at the other mobsters for quickly moving on from his father's death. But the real threat to Oswald is Falcone's daughter, Sofia.

How I Met Your Mother's Cristin Milioti will play Sofia Falcone on the series, and she is obviously Oswald's top rival. Sofia feels that she's been unjustly shut out of the family business because she's a woman, and she's willing to get blood on her hands to rectify the situation. Although Sofia says some complimentary things to Oswald late in the trailer, Gotham isn't big enough for the both of them.

Additionally, it looks like Oswald will be taking someone under his wing during his rise to power. But since this show takes place after The Batman, the obvious question is whether Bruce Wayne's alter ego will appear. So far, there are few signs of the Bat.

The Penguin will premiere on Max in September, but a specific date hasn't been announced yet.
