Red Alert 3 revealed
Cover of April PC Gamer reveals the alternate-history spin-off of EALA's Command and Conquer series is being revived.
Yesterday, Electronic Arts revealed it was bringing BioWare's wildly popular role-playing game Mass Effect to PCs in April. Today, the massive publisher lifted PC gamers' spirits even further, revealing--via the April cover of PC Gamer magazine--that its Los Angeles studio is developing Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
Red Alert 3 will be the first installment in the C&C spin-off series since the 2001 expansion pack Command & Conquer Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge for the PC. Both that game and the critically lauded original Red Alert took place in an alternate history where, following the assassination of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin invades Western Europe. Massive, brutal warfare ensues, allowing players to fight as either the European resistance or as a Soviet general taking orders from "Uncle Joe" himself.
While the first Red Alert was serious, Red Alert 2 and its expansion pack took a more comedic approach, playing up exaggerated military and Soviet stereotypes. It's unclear how serious--or humorous--Red Alert 3 will be, as the PC Gamer betrays no other information other than its existence. Requests for information from EA about a release date had gone unanswered as of press time. It also remains unclear if Red Alert 3 will follow in the footsteps of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and come to the Xbox 360.
