Deadpool and Wolverine is still a few weeks away, but director Shawn Levy's future in the Star Wars universe is gaining momentum. Levy was attached to direct a Star Wars movie in 2022, and now that film has added a screenwriter.

Via The Insneider and later confirmed by Deadline, Jonathan Tropper has signed on to write Levy's Star Wars movie. Tropper previously collaborated with Levy on The Adam Project, This Is Where I Leave You, and Kodachrome. Additionally, Tropper created Banshee and Warrior for Cinemax before the premium cable network abandoned original programming.

To date, no story details about Levy's Star Wars film have been revealed, nor is there any concrete info about where it falls in the franchise's timeline. It was notably not among the films announced by Lucasfilm at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Those movies included James Mangold's origin of the Jedi film, Dave Filoni's Mandalorian-era story, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's sequel, which will bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker.

The next Star Wars movie to hit theaters will be The Mandalorian and Grogu on May 22, 2026. Lucasfilm is also holding two other dates for Star Wars movies: Dec. 18, 2026 and Dec. 17, 2027. Whether the studio will actually go through with releasing two Star Wars films in the same year remains to be seen.
