Flight Risk Trailer Puts Mark Wahlberg Into The Deadly Skies

Mark Wahlberg stars in a new thriller called Flight Risk that features a hit man at odds with a federal agent.

At this stage of his career, Mark Wahlberg is starting to enter his character actor phase. And it's hard not to think of John Malkovich's most over-the-top roles when looking at the new trailer for Wahlberg's upcoming thriller, Flight Risk. Between the actor's bizarre accent and his receding hairline, the first revelation of Flight Risk isn't that surprising. Instead, it's the aftermath of the reveal that gives the film its intrigue.

Michelle Dockery co-stars as Madelyn Harris, an FBI agent who has been assigned to escort Winston (Topher Grace), an informant who is due to testify in an upcoming case. But this is no milk run for Madelyn, especially once she realizes that her pilot, Daryl Booth (Wahlberg), isn't who he claims to be. Unfortunately for Madelyn, she only discovers this crucial piece of info once their plane is in the air.

Although Madelyn and Winston survive their initial scuffle with Daryl, their next problem is getting the plane safely on the ground. Neither of them can fly, and they can't trust Daryl to land the plane because he's a hit man who has been hired to make sure that they never arrive at their destination. Even if they can figure out how to work the plane, Daryl seems destined to break out of his bonds and attack them again.

Jared Rosenberg wrote the script for Flight Risk, which was directed by Mel Gibson. Despite winning an Oscar for Best Director for Braveheart, Gibson's career has never fully recovered from the numerous racist and anti-Semitic comments that he's made in the past. Gibson hasn't been completely blackballed from Hollywood, and he had a large role in The Continental last year. But he's no longer among the A-list of stars and directors. That's why most of Gibson's recent directorial efforts have been in low-budget films like this one.

Flight Risk will hit theaters on October 18.
