Film distributor A24's next film is all about the danger of missionary work, especially when it involves being trapped by an evil mastermind in a deadly maze designed to test your faith. Heretic, a psychological-thriller directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, stars Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as two Mormon missionaries who fall into the trap of Mr. Reed--played by Paddington 2's Hugh Grant--a well-mannered man who forces the pair into a cat-and-mouse game designed to make them witness a "miracle".

Heretic was first announced in June 2023, with details on the project being kept under wraps. Beck and Woods, who also wrote the script for this film, already had Grant locked in for the role of Mr. Reed, while Thatcher and East were cast shortly after. All three actors have been busy over the last couple of years, with Thatcher building up an impressive resume with roles in Showtime's Yellowjackets, the upcoming MaXXXine, and The Boogeyman.

Meanwhile, A24 has been distributing several well-received horror films lately like The Front Room and X amidst other features like The Iron Claw and an upcoming adaptation of the video game Death Stranding. It hasn't been smooth sailing for every project under A24, as a Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, doesn't currently have any showrunners after the people in charge of that production were fired.

Heretic is scheduled to land in theaters on November 15, 2024.
