Simon Kuper is bullish about France (Spectrum, Life & Arts, June 29).
He notes that the country’s prospects have rarely been this promising and yet here we are: the French cannot, will not, see it.

President Emmanuel Macron shared the same optimism, basing his confidence on data and claims of economic and social improvement during the snap elections. However, people are not always as rational as we might hope. This serves as a crucial lesson for any business leader: regardless of how strong your track record is or how much value you demonstrate, it stills need to be communicated with care and empathy. President Macron forgot the first rule of good marketing: never fall in love with your ideas, nor your product.
