Generous on the jam
I lived in Paris as a student at Sciences Po, so when I had interviews or semi-formal affairs, I often conducted them at Treize au Jardin in the 6th arrondissement. It offers a divine quiche and a selection of jams generous enough to please this British expat. —Arjun Neil Alim, media professional, London, UK
Danish delights
Fringe Coffee in the Marais. It has a lovely, low-key, chic vibe, warm service, excellent coffee and Danish open sandwiches. —Raj Natarajan Jr, investor, Houston, Texas, US
Pancake perfection
Zia is a small, family-owned restaurant in the 7th arrondissement run by American-French chef Justin Kent. Among the superb French-inspired plates and seasonal dishes with a touch of New Mexico, the Dutch baby pancakes are mouth-watering, served in a iron skillet and topped with a fried egg. Coffee comes from beans roasted at local brûlerie Coutume. —Koshu Kunii, venture capitalist, Paris, France
Bristol fashion
Epicure at Le Bristol hotel in the 8th arrondissement offers the ultimate power breakfast. Olivier Legros, the maître d’, is outstanding. —Ivan Schlager, attorney
Priced to impress
Ladurée Paris Royale is never busy in the morning, opening at a fashionable 8am. This 8th arrondissement spot offers wonderful French breakfast specials such as pain perdu and omelette roulèe avec legumes. You can also indulge in a hot chocolate and a pastry. It is massively overpriced to impress your guest. —Paul Summerville, finance, Victoria, Canada
Best of the Bastille
Café Français on Place de la Bastille has some very good breakfast options, from the traditional tartines and omelettes to granola and yoghurt, with a very nice view of the July Column and the Opéra. —Jean-Phillippe Osta, consultant, Paris, France
Spectral guests
The Mandarin Oriental hotel near the Place Vendôme is stylish and clean. Order the Chinese and the Japanese breakfast. Not the hotspot to see and be seen, maybe, but you might encounter the real deal-makers, and some ghosts as well. —Laurent-Olivier, banker, Paris, France
An international affair
Hôtel Ritz Paris has European, American and Japanese choices, and an impressive location, barely five minutes’ walk from the Place de la Concorde. It is perfect on all fronts. —Keith Lindsay, adviser, Paris, France
