LG rolls out its gamer-friendly M4 wireless OLED TV

LG has announced the latest generation of its wireless OLED TV — the LG OLED evo M4 (originally announced at CES) — began its official rollout on July 1.

The new model comes with two big changes that could see it find a home in households where gaming is a big part of the entertainment mix. The first is the addition of 4K video at 144Hz. While that won’t mean much to folks who primarily watch movies and TV shows, it’s a significant change for gamers who enjoy high-frame-rate titles. With native support for a 144Hz refresh rate, these games are going to look even smoother than they did on the OLED evo M3, which topped out at 4K/120Hz. Just keep in mind that the biggest M4 — the 97-inch model — is still limited to 4K/120Hz.

Speaking of size, that’s the other big change, and we’re talking about going smaller, not bigger. The M4 is now the first wireless OLED TV you can buy in a 65-inch screen size — the smallest (and most affordable) wireless OLED TV so far.

LG hasn’t added the M4 to its U.S. website yet, so we can’t share exact pricing or shipping dates, but we can make an educated guess based on LG’s Hong Kong website, which lists the 65-inch M4 at 44,980 Hong Kong dollars. At today’s exchange rate, that’s about $5,756.

LG says the new M4 also gets the new α (Alpha) 11 AI Processor, which also shows up on LG’s other 2024 OLED models, like the new OLED G4. Does that new processor matter? Our reviewer definitely thought so, saying that the G4 “is the most capable and versatile OLED TV I’ve ever tested.”

These new features are on top of the M-series big draw — that it can do fully wireless audio and video — letting you mount the panel almost anywhere you can find a power outlet, no HDMI cables needed. If you’re doubtful that wireless video works as well as wired video, check out our in-depth review of last year’s OLED M3, which put those fears to rest.

LG’s giant, wireless OLED TV gets a giant price
The LG 97-inch Signature OLED M3 4K TV and Zero Connect box.

One of the coolest things we saw at CES 2023 -- at least in terms of TV tech -- was LG's enormous 97-inch wireless OLED TV. The LG Signature OLED M requires only a power cable when it's mounted to a wall. Everything else -- the video, audio, and network connectivity is all beamed wirelessly to the screen from a big black cube that acts as the TV's brain. This clever bit of TV kit now has a price and a global release: it's coming to the U.K. in September for 28,000 British pounds (about $35,400).

It will be accompanied by two smaller versions based on LG's OLED evo panels -- an 83-inch model for 8,000 British pounds (about $10,000), and a 77-inch version for 6,000 British pounds (about $7,600). These wireless TVs are also expected to make their way to other parts of Europe and the U.S. later this year, according to LG's press release, but no U.S.-specific pricing was announced.

LG releases 2023 OLED TV prices: evo G3 starts at $2,500, preorders start March 6
LG G3 OLED evo 4K TV seen wall-mounted.

LG has announced the pricing and availability of its 2023 OLED 4K and 8K TV lineup, including the eagerly anticipated OLED evo G3 Gallery Edition -- the first 4K OLED TV to make use of microlens array (MLA) technology for enhanced brightness, color, and viewing angles. All models will be available for preorder starting March 6 on LG.com, with deliveries happening in March and April, depending on the size and model.

Unfortunately, the company has yet to announce pricing or availability on two of its most interesting new OLED TVs, the LG Signature OLED M, a 97-inch TV with wireless transmission of video and audio, and OLED T, a transparent OLED TV.

Samsung accidentally reveals price of its 77-inch QD-OLED TV
The Samsung S95C on display at CES 2023.

Usually, when new TVs are announced at CES, it can take months for companies to reveal pricing and availability. And perhaps Samsung was planning to do just that with its 77-inch S95C, its largest QD-OLED TV to date. But the company seemingly let the cat out of the bag on January 26, by including the new model -- and its price -- on its U.S. website, according to Sammobile.

The S95C details are no longer on the website, so Digital Trends can't verify the information, however, a screenshot taken at the time shows a price of $4499.99, making the larger model $1,500 more expensive than its currently available 65-inch S95B, which sells for $3,000. If this seems like a bigger gap in price than we're used to for models that exist in both 65- and 77-inch sizes, it could be because the S95C is going to be Samsung's premium 77-inch QD-OLED, with the planned S90C arriving in a 77-inch size but with fewer features.
