Hitman developer IO Interactive is working on a new James Bond game

The team behind the Hitman series is working on a new James Bond video game. The project’s current working title is Project 007.

Developer IO Interactive revealed the news with a brief teaser trailer that features the iconic James Bond theme and gun barrel. The trailer doesn’t explain much more, other than confirming that IO is developing and publishing the title itself. The game will be the company’s second self-published game following next year’s Hitman 3.

On its Twitter account, IO says that the game is a “brand-new James Bond video game with a wholly original story.” Project 007 is described as the “very first” James Bond origin story, which reveals how the character got his 00 status.

While the announcement doesn’t mention anything about the game’s genre or if it will have multiplayer, IO’s history with the Hitman series could provide some hints. The developer is adept at creating stealth games, which seems like a perfect fit for a property like 007.

The news is significant considering that there hasn’t been a James Bond video game since 2012’s 007 Legends. The license for the series was previously held by Activision, but it had its rights revoked in 2013. Activision backed away from publishing licensed games shortly thereafter.

IO didn’t provide any details about a release date or which specific platforms the game will launch on. The studio says that its currently recruiting talent to work on the game, which seems to indicate that its still in very early stages of development. In the meantime, IO’s next project, Hitman 3, is set to release on January 20.

That final update, which is available now, is focused on the game's more hardcore players and fleshes out the Arena mode introduced in an update earlier this year. It includes six new arenas, 75 new challenges to complete within them, lots of new modifiers and cheats, and a Custom Arenas mode that lets players tailor their own challenges. Overall, Sloclap believes this adds 15 hours of gameplay.

Few games have as wild of a development journey as Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines 2.

A sequel to a cult-classic vampire RPG from the mid-2000s, Bloodlines 2 began its life as a 2016 pitch from developer Hardsuit Labs and Brian Mitsoda, writer of the original game, to IP owner and game publisher Paradox Interactive. Initially slated for release in early 2020, it was delayed multiple times before Paradox fired Mitsoda and took Hardsuit Labs off the project by mid-2021. Paradox chose not to cancel the game, though, instead finding a new studio to take it over the finish line.

Netflix games may be coming to TVs soon, as revealed by new iOS app

It looks like Netflix might be expanding its gaming offerings to TVs soon, as a Netflix Game Controller is now on the iOS App Store. Netflix has yet to announce or comment on the purpose of the app, but a message shown when the app boots up confirms that it's coming.
Netflix has slowly made its way into the gaming industry over the past couple of years, acquiring studios and adding a dedicated game section to its mobile app that lets players download premium mobile games. The library includes some great games like Poinpy and Before Your Eyes, but has yet to break into the mainstream, likely due to its somewhat obscure availability. This new app, which was preemptively listed on Apple's storefront by Netflix and lines up with leaks from earlier this year, indicates that Netflix Games are coming to the TV.
The description for the app states that "this Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device." After downloading and booting up the app, Digital Trends discovered two more messages asking players to "choose a game on your TV and follow the directions to connect" and that "Netflix Games on TV are in beta. Some devices may not be supported at this time."
All of this points to an impending beta rollout for games on Netflix's TV apps, which has not been announced yet. As such, we don't have any idea about which televisions or games the iOS app or Netflix Games on TV will support just yet. Regardless, this looks like a massive evolution for Netflix's gaming efforts, especially as it gears up to release a cloud gaming service.
Netflix declined to comment on the program when asked by Digital Trends, but it did refer us to previous statements it made about its intentions to break into cloud and TV game streaming.
