    Lexus RX Plug-in Hybrid

    Current Model
The RX450h+ is the plug-in hybrid electric version of Lexus' popular SUV. It has an EPA estimated 37-mile electric range and shares its 304-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a CVT with the Toyota RAV4 Prime.
It has a more robust electric propulsion ability than the regular hybrid version thanks to its 18.1 kWh battery. After the electric portion is used up, the RXh+ transitions to regular hybrid operation, in which it gets 34 mpg in our tests. It takes about three hours to charge the battery on a 240-volt connection. Regardless of the mode, power is ample and blending of the power sources is seamless. Only during hard acceleration the engine growl is noticeable. In other respects, the PHEV is similar to the rest of the RX line with a comfortable ride, even with the 21-inch tires. Handling is sound but not sporty. The well-finished cabin has lots of padded surfaces and exposed stitching. The front seats are comfortable and the rear seat is roomy. The infotainment touchscreen isn’t the most intuitive, and the electronic door latches and gear selector take acclimation. The head-up display is nice but interacting with it through the unlabeled steering-wheel buttons is fussy.
