Nissan loaded the deck with the redesigned QX80 and moved this large luxury SUV further upscale, well into the Cadillac Escalade territory and hovering around the $100,000 mark. It gains 50 horsepower, thanks to its smooth and punchy 450-hp, 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine that replaced the previous V8.
A new nine-speed automatic transmission is slick and responsive. The ride is comfortable and the lavishly furnished cabin is very quiet. Whether in rear or four-wheel drive versions, handling is surprisingly responsive for such a large coach. Adaptive suspension comes on most trims and is capable of lowering the ride height for easier access. Controls are manageable but it takes some concentration to interact with the far-away center touchscreen through the steering wheel buttons. Premium features are designed to rival the most prestigious competitors like large screens, superb Klipsch audio, power adjustable second-row seats with massage, and the latest ProPilot Assist 2.1 active driving assistance system.

    2024
The QX80 large SUV has a plush, luxurious, and quiet interior. We liked the supple ride but found this big barge to be ungainly, with cumbersome handling in everyday driving, though it was ultimately secure in emergency maneuvers.
The seven-speed automatic and 400-hp, 5.6-liter V8 provide smooth and strong performance, but the QX80 chugs premium fuel and returns just 15 mpg overall. The tall step-up to the cabin makes climbing in or out an ungraceful affair. Cargo volume is plentiful, and the small power-folding third-row seat comes in handy for carrying two kids. A recent refresh brought a more modern infotainment system and other updated controls. The Nissan Armada is essentially the same vehicle but costs less.

    2014 Redesign Year
Infiniti changed the QX56 name to QX80 from 2014 onward. With the 2011 redesign, the big Infiniti moved to a new platform. It also became a plush luxury liner with a quiet, well-equipped cabin and a supple, steady ride.
However, its high step-in, ungainly handling, and fuel economy of just 15 mpg overall are detriments. Standard safety features include stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Options include blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control with automatic braking and lane-departure warning.  Optional for 2014 is Infiniti's Backup Collision Intervention, which emits audible and visible warnings when objects are detected behind the vehicle during reversing maneuvers. The system can also stop the Infiniti to prevent collisions. For 2019, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection are standard. Other updates include standard blind spot warning and a rear-seat reminder system so parents don’t leave children behind when exiting the vehicle. Updates for 2022 include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility, wireless smartphone charger, and a Bose sound system.
