The problem is due to a water leak

Land Rover is recalling over 58,000 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs from the 2018 through 2022 model years because their backup cameras may not display a visible image. Only vehicles equipped with a surround-view camera are included in the recall.

    MORE ON CAR RECALLS

The problem occurs when water leaks into the rear camera, which can cause the rear camera to go blurry or not show an image at all. If this happens, drivers may not be able to see pedestrians or obstacles behind the vehicle. In addition, the SUVs would no longer be in compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Land Rover dealerships will replace a seal to prevent water intrusion and, if necessary, replace the backup camera. As with all recalls, this repair will be free of charge. Owners who have already paid to fix this problem may be eligible for reimbursement from the automaker.

There have been no crashes or injuries related to this issue, according to documents Land Rover provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

    Range Rover Recall Details

    Vehicles Recalled
    • Land Rover Range Rover SUVs manufactured between July 5, 2017, and Dec. 10, 2021

    • Land Rover Range Rover Sport SUVs manufactured between May 25, 2017, and April 28, 2022

The problem: On vehicles equipped with a surround-view camera setup, water may leak into the backup camera housing, causing the backup camera to fail.

The fix: Land Rover dealerships will replace a seal that protects the backup camera from water intrusion. If the backup camera is damaged, dealerships will replace the camera.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Land Rover at 800-637-6837.

NHTSA campaign number: 24V023. Land Rover’s own number for this recall is N778.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
