The redesigned 2024 X2 is essentially an X1 with a swept back roofline, making it look like a coupe and hurting rear and side visibility. It finally features BSW and gets a host of new tech upgrades, including a larger, dash-dominating display and a tiny electronic gear selector, and it forgoes the iDrive central control knob.
Many audio and climate functions are performed through the touchscreen. The seats are comfortable and supportive and fit and finish is befitting the brand. The base model xDrive28i has an energetic 241-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that packs some punch. It takes some getting used to the low speed quirks of the dual-clutch automatic transmission. Handling is nimble and the ride is firm and controlled. The sportier M35i xDrive comes with a 312-hp version of that engine. Unlike traditional BMWs, this is a front-wheel-drive based car but all-wheel drive are standard.

The BMW X2 is designed to appeal to style-conscious customers who want a sporty-looking SUV but don't mind sacrificing interior space. Based on the X1, the lower, shorter X2 feels more like driving a car than an SUV.
Its power comes from a gutsy 228-hp, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's mated to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. Front- and all-wheel drive are available. The ride is a bit stiff, but handling is sharp and engaging, making the X2 enjoyable to drive. The cabin is well made if a bit austere, with comfortable front seats and logical controls. Outward visibility is hurt by the sleek styling. A sporty M35i version with 302 horsepower and standard all-wheel-drive arrived for 2019. Advanced safety features such as forward collision warning (FCW) and city-speed automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection became standard on 2019 models.  For 2020, the X2 got a new electronic gear selector. The X2 is in hiatus for 2023.
