    BMW 3 Series Plug-in Hybrid

    Current Model
The 330e plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) builds on the already accomplished 3 Series, blending athletic handling, an energetic powertrain, and the ability to drive under electric-only power for an EPA-estimated 20 miles. It takes three hours to charge the battery on a 240-volt EV charger, or 16 hours on a 120-volt household outlet.
Once the battery is depleted, the 330e transitions to regular hybrid operation, where it got a lower 28 mpg vs. the regular 330i xDrive's 29 mpg overall. Handling is nimble, but the ride is quite firm--though slightly more absorbent than the regular 3 Series. Seat comfort and cabin fit and finish are first-rate. Note that trunk space is reduced due to the intrusion from the large battery. The 3 Series' iDrive infotainment system isn't as intuitive as previous versions, partly because the climate control functions are now in the touchscreen. It's disappointing that AEB highway, BSW, and RCTW are optional instead of standard.
