Sumit Sharma is a Senior Researcher specializing in competition and antitrust matters and part of Consumer Reports’ advocacy team. In this role at CR, he will help the organization continue its work to shape the digital marketplace in a way that empowers consumers and protects their interests as multiple sectors are intermediated by digital technologies.
Prior to joining CR, Sumit held various positions as an economist (both as an outside expert and in-house economist) specializing in issues related to the converging telecoms, media and technology sectors. His expertise in the ICT/Digital sector has been developed through a broad spectrum of work across regulatory, finance, and competition issues in the technology/telecoms sector.
His experience includes advising Governments and companies on strategic policy, policy design/evaluation, competition, and investment matters. He has also advised on various antitrust matters (mergers, bundling/tying, and non-discriminatory access); defining evolving markets to assess market power and design proportionate remedies; cost standards to assess predatory pricing and margin squeeze.
He began his career as an economist for NERA Economic Consulting and received his Master’s degree in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and his Master’s degree in International Commerce from Seoul National University.
