    Millie Chu Baird

    Vice President, Office of the Chief Scientist, Environmental Defense Fund

    Member of Consumer Reports’ Board of Directors since 2021. Millie Chu Baird is a Vice President in Environmental Defense Fund’s (EDF) Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS). Ms. Baird leads innovative projects that produce actionable data to help solve environmental problems. Ms. Baird currently leads Mission Impact for EDF’s MethaneSAT, the most advanced methane tracking satellite in space. Ms. Baird is also leading a project to measure air pollution after climate-driven natural disaster events in the Gulf Coast, specifically in communities adjacent to petrochemical and other industrial facilities. Prior to joining the EDF, Ms. Baird was the Senior Program Officer for Climate Advocacy and Equity for the Yellow Chair Foundation. She was responsible for the foundation’s climate and equity giving portfolio. Prior to joining the Yellow Chair Foundation, Ms. Baird was the Associate Vice President for the Office of Chief Scientist at the EDF. There, Ms. Baird led innovative projects that brought actionable data to help solve environmental problems, including mapping methane leaks with Google Earth Outreach. She was then part of the leadership team for EDF’s efforts to use data and analysis from hyperlocal air sensors to spur public action to improve air pollution. As part of OCS’s leadership team, she was responsible for helping to set and implement the strategic vision for office. Additionally, Ms. Baird was EDF’s interim lead for environmental justice and equity, and has partnered with frontline community groups fighting air pollution. She has BS and MS degrees in Earth Systems from Stanford University.
