What's the Story?
The series begins with the wedding of Conchita (Alisha Boe), a secretly pregnant bride. Her many bridesmaids and friends support her, including Nan St. George (Kristine Frøseth), the daughter of New York social climbers (her watchful mother is played by Mad Men's Christina Hendricks). An invite to London from Conchita's new husband Lord Richard changes everything for these new money debutantes. Will the girls find their own fortunes across the pond, or will their American-ness be their downfall?
Is It Any Good?
This series' modern actresses don't always embody an 1870s vibe, but it's still mostly bubbly fun. The Buccaneers, like other recent period shows like Apple TV+'s earlier hit, Dickinson, has lots of anachronisms (some seem very purposeful, like the inclusion of an Olivia Rodrigo song, others less so). The settings and costumes are sumptuous and the lively vibes are undeniable -- plus, teens will enjoy the unbridled romance and drama.
