Why this petition matters

Started by Kelly Bostic

My son Tyler was a vibrant 29-year-old, an Electronic Manufacturing Specialist with a promising future at Northrop Grumman. He was a loving son, big brother, uncle, nephew, and grandson. However, his life was cut short due to an addiction that stemmed from his battle with depression and anxiety. A drug dealer sold him pills containing Bromazolam & Isotonitazene - substances he had no intention of ingesting. His fear of hard drugs didn't save him from the fatal poisoning that took his life.

This tragic story is not unique to my family alone; it's an epidemic affecting numerous families across Maryland. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, there were approximately 2,090 overdose deaths involving opioids in Maryland in 2018—a rate of 34.7 deaths per 100k persons (NIH). These numbers are devastatingly high compared to the national average. It’s not just adults being murdered, teenagers and even younger children. How many lives have to be taken before MD will hold these drug dealers accountable?

The state of Maryland needs to take action against these dealers who are knowingly selling lethal substances under false pretenses by implementing drug-induced homicide laws. This would hold them accountable for their actions and serve as a deterrent for others considering this deadly trade.

We also urge the state authorities to criminally investigate all cases involving overdoses and toxic drug poisonings thoroughly. By doing so, we can ensure justice for victims like my awesome son Tyler and prevent more families from experiencing such heartbreak.

My son may not get his justice but his story will help raise more awareness and hopefully help get new needed laws. I know my son would want me to do this to help save lives so I will never give up!

Please sign this petition if you believe in holding those responsible for these senseless deaths accountable under law enforcement's full extent.

My selfless sons death has affected so many but one very special little girl only 4 years old. My son’s niece my granddaughter.
They had such a special love for each other. She kept a smile on my son’s face from the first moment he saw her the day she was born. She will hold his picture as tears roll down her face. She will hold onto his favorite sweatshirt when she goes to sleep. She asks when he will come back down from heaven. This crushes me. Times when I haven’t been able to hold in my breaking down, this precious child comes to comfort me to tell me it’s ok GiGi don’t cry because remember Uncie Ty is always in your heart. A drug dealer didn’t just shatter my heart but hurt my grandchild and took away her right to grow up sharing special time with her Uncie and making more memories with him and this is not ok.

My son never had the opportunity to have his own family and that is not ok. These drug dealers must be held accountable for the lives they take and for the suffering they bring upon families and friends.

You can help save lives and also help prevent little children like my precious granddaughter from hurting and feeling pain she should not be subjected to.
