'No Console Needed' as Xbox Game Pass Ignites On Amazon Fire TV

The Xbox Wire Blog has revealed massive news today, as Xbox has officially announced that the Xbox Game Pass service is coming to an Amazon Fire TV without ever needing to own the Xbox part.

It seems Xbox President, Sarah Bond’s vision of “every screen is an Xbox” from back in February is starting to become true. Today, Xbox has announced that they are officially wheeling out Xbox Game Pass to Amazon Fire TV devices, and this collaboration with Amazon will allow Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in over 25 countries to play games directly from the Xbox app on select Amazon Fire TV devices. It is worth mentioning this will work via cloud gaming, but it will work without having an Xbox console.

When the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate app rolls out to these devices, fans and aspiring gamers will only need a few things to fire up Xbox gaming on their TVs. Players will require a Fire TV Stick, a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller, and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. This will allow anyone to access their entire catalogue of Xbox games at the drop of a hat on Amazon Fire TV devices. Of course, this includes the entire Bethesda-developed Fallout series of games, which bridges the gap between the Prime Video TV series and the games that inspired it.

Corporate Vice President of Xbox Experiences and Platforms Engineering, Ashley McKissick, explains, “Over the past several years, we have been on a journey to deliver cloud gaming to more devices and to more people around the globe. We are excited to add Fire TV to our growing family of cloud gaming devices and eager to welcome new players into this experience” including “For those who don’t own an Xbox console, this provides an affordable and convenient way to get started” regarding the Xbox Game Pass rollout to Amazon TV devices.

The Xbox app will initially be available on the Fire TV 4K Max (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K (2023), with other device compatibility to be confirmed at a later date. It’s worth mentioning although Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been announced as a Day One Game Pass release, it has not been confirmed if day one releases will be made available on Fire TV at the outset.
