Just finished reading "Root", and wow - what a ride! It's one of those books that pulls you in right from the start and never lets go. The team of scientists are relatable and their mission - figuring out the mystery behind a massive tree that could potentially save our planet - is genuinely exciting.

What I loved the most was how the book combines hard science and mythology in a way that's easy to understand and incredibly engaging. It's rare to find a book that's this entertaining, yet also makes you stop and think about serious issues like climate change and our responsibility towards Earth.

The characters, the plot, the science - everything works in harmony to create a story that's as thought-provoking as it is thrilling. I walked away feeling like I'd not only enjoyed a great read, but also learned a lot.

Bottom line: If you're looking for a book that combines action, science, and deep reflection on our relationship with the environment, "Root" should be at the top of your list. Can't wait for the sequel!

Steigerwald creates a captivating, thrilling, and downright exciting environment from start to finish.

The character development and elaborate descriptions of Dr. Maya, Leo, Anika, and more, create visual imagery that sets the scene for the personalities the reader will encounter.

The author creates excitement from the get-go with an excellent mood setting and description: ‘They hunkered down, bodies pressed against the earth, their breaths held in tandem with the pounding of their hearts.’

Not only is the reader encapsulated by a riveting tale, but we are also struck with the awareness of how we must take care of our planet in tandem.

For sci-fi fans looking for something unique and thought-provoking.

This book does a great job explaining the science behind the restoration of extinct species of plant life. However, the actual plot is difficult to follow to an acceptable conclusion.
I award this book 3 Stars.

This is one of those books that grabs you from the first page and won't let go. The scientific team is likeable, and their quest to unravel the riddle of a huge tree that might just rescue the globe is quite thrilling. The book is a fusion of environmental science, mythology, and modern issues. I found it enjoyable but made me pause and consider important subjects like climate change and our duty as earth dwellers.

I cannot emphasize enough how nothing happens in this book. Don't be fooled by the comparisons to Jurassic Park: there is no hard science here, no thrills, no moral quandaries, and no plot.

I've never read a book with such a specific science fiction idea where nothing happens. The characters aren't even in the story half the time because they have nothing to do. They want a magic tree to grow, they grow a magic tree. That's all. The story isn't about it being difficult, or people trying to stop them, or the unintended consequences. They just do it. A few people die when the tree gets too big, and a character who hasn't been part of the story gazes meaningfully at the sky and talks about how things are going to change. The end. The science of the tree and the roots is never fully explained, and kind of hand waved as being "magical".

But don't get excited about the tree having a face on the cover-- the tree is not sentient.

The government hangs around being spooky but doesn't do anything.
There's a guy who (plot twist) worships an Egyptian goddess, but he doesn't do anything.
Everyone stands around talking in cliches about "the dawn of a new era" and "truths will be rewritten" and so on, without ever discussing what that new era will look like or what truths they're rewriting. I get the sense the author wrote this in about two hours without doing any research or planning. An unfortunate waste of a good idea.

I found the book an exciting read. For people who like Jurassic Park, you’ll enjoy this too.

The author explores hidden mysteries of our past history that challenges the status qou in today’s scientific communities. The questions asked are done in a fair and straightforward way including many sides of arguments and debate.

It will your eyes to unique thoughts and done so in a very accessible way.

'Root: Awakening the Ancien' is a novel that takes you on an exhilarating journey of ecological science fiction, coupled with a fast-paced and thrilling narrative, which makes it a quick and fun read.

The author deftly merges hard science with riveting storytelling, maintaining a sense of intrigue and suspense throughout. The narrative's urgency and the intriguing scientific angle make the story even more appealing.

My one wish is for the characters to have a bit more depth. Their fascinating mission deserved a deeper dive into their backgrounds and motivations. That said, the thrilling narrative and the timely eco-conscious theme did make up for it. I would have loved a longer read, which is a testament to the captivating world Steigerwald has crafted. "Root: Awakening the Ancient" is a definitely recommended for anyone looking for a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on science fiction.
