Back when I was but a young man my grandfather taught me how to care for my first nice car I had, he gave me his old chamois and told me that it was the most important piece of car care equipment. Well the years went by, that chamois was my constant companion come car wash day.......then it happened. My wife and daughter in law to be were cleaning up in the garage and .....threw away my chamois.....it still pains me to think of it. Anyway. I go to Amazaon to look for a replacement, this one had the right size and the reviews seemed good. The one thing that I did not know.....you HAVE TO...you MUST...prep a chamois before it first use. I washed my car and took my brand new, un-prepped chamois to my new car...what a disaster. I was just about to right a nasty review, but first did my due diligence and Googled prepping a chamois......after propper prep, I washed my car again (my wife thought I was insane) and used my chamois and the car came out 100% the way it supposed to. I still miss my 40 year old wash pal, but the new chamois will get better with age......

This genuine all-leather chamois was just like the one I had years ago but somehow got misplaced. It is a nice size to use as is or you can cut it into a couple of pieces. It's very high-quality and I would recommend it to anyone needing a genuine chamois. You should prepare it before its first use by washing it in warm water with soap used specifically to wash your vehicle. This soap doesn't contain a degreaser which will remove the natural oils from the leather and shorten its life-span. Rinse in clean water and you are ready to go with a great chamois.

Received this today, rinsed in mild soap solution per instructions. Looks to be a quality chamois. It varied in width from approx. 1 to 2 feet wide by 3 1/2 feet, narrower on one end. No straggler tails, nicely trimmed. Have used chamois (plural) for 40+ years. No synthetic will touch a chamois for its intended purpose. Chamois do tend to be a little oily at first, but age nicely as drying quality increases. Would have given a 5 if had used for a while. Made in China, no staples.

This is a superb quality leather chamois. From the moment I removed it from the package and felt the softness and smell of genuine leather, I knew it was going to be a good quality product. When I was in the military we used the highest quality leather chamois for cleaning aircraft windshields, and this product is of that same great excellence. And the price is a real value. Super absorbent. Be sure to properly break your leather chamois in before first use and follow the care instructions. By doing these two things, it should last for many years.

This item is supposed to be 4 sq. ft. It is not even close to 4 sq. ft. Also, understanding this is a hide and won't be a perfect square, it is long and narrow - width varies from approx. 6 inches to 10 inches wide and 3 feet long. I am returning this and, of course, Amazon is awesome and makes it very easy to return.

I haven't used a chamois in several years, but recently purchased a vintage guitar and was told a chamois is the best way to maintain the lacquer finish. I keep this chamois in my guitar case and religiously use it to wipe my guitar down after each practice session. Four square feet was more than enough for my application and simply love the scent it adds to my case as well! I highly recommend this chamois for anyone in need of one for their cleaning, automotive, or musical instrument needs!

The piece I received measured 40" in length - but width varied from 9 1/2" to 20" - with both ends measuring 9 1/2" and center to 20" - cut unproportionately from 20" center to 9 !/2" on both ends - not a square for sure nor even an oval shaped cloth - leather itself is very THIN - I don't believe it is of cowhide nature but can't contest to that fact - very soft - I have other cowhide shimmy's and are thicker and are stiffer - I will announce at this point in time that I have not used this shammy yet, so I cannot attest to efficiency. Will say however, that this item is not as described. Hope for the best.

Out of the two, one feels a bit thinner although dimensional, they are 4 sq feet. You can simply rub your fingers between the two and notice the difference. Someone who only orders just one will probably not even be aware of it. I ordered two because I've got 4 cars in the household and rinse out one of them and let dry. Another brand I've used lasted almost a year and those chamois all are used at least once every other week.
These are real chamois, not synthetic so it does require proper attention especially when you first get them.
