Only works randomly

I like the design, sound and quality of the set, but it works randomly. I tried it at a wedding and could not get anything but broken sound and and mostly no sound. I played music at a bowling alley 2 nights in a row and it worked perfectly the first night and again could not get a good signal or only get static on the second night. I scanned and re-scanned. I also changed batteries, even though the battery level showed as being good. It is very frustrating.
