THE GHD CURVE IRON - DESIGN
This curling is mostly made from a nice looking flat black plastic, with a rubberized non-hot tip, and rubberized fixed stand. The single control (power button with lit ring around it) is located in the typical spot. On the back is a small speaker that enables alert chimes, including an “at temperature” chime. The cord swivels 360 degrees around the base and is 100” long, with an integrated breaker in the power brick where it plugs into the wall. This power brick design prevents you from plugging in anything in the outlet below it. The heated portion of the barrel is 4.5” long and the diameter is 1”.
THE GHD CURVE IRON – USE & RESULTS
I timed warm-ups from cold a few times, and each time the unit is ready to curl after less than 20 seconds of warm-up (this is quicker than advertised). This iron maintains a fixed temperature of 365°F and no adjustment is provided. This temperature curls my fine hair in 6-8 seconds. Overall, this curling iron functions exactly the same as other curling irons I’ve used, and results are similar – no better, no worse.
WARRANTY
Included is a 2-year warranty. If your unit has an issue and is repaired/replaced, the new unit continues with the original warranty, and the warranty will be extended to ensure a minimum 180day warranty on the replacement. No details are provided on the warranty procedure (i.e. if you need to send it to them at your cost, etc.)
THIS GHD VS CORSAIR INSTANT HEAT
Warm-up time – 20s (ghd), 90s (Corsair)
Power Cord length – 100” (ghd), 60” (Corsair)
Auto shut off – after 25 minutes (ghd), after 60 minutes (Corsair)
Warranty – 2 years (both ghd and Corsair)
Price - $200+ (ghd), $15 (Corsair)
Results – basically the same (my Corsair is a ¾” barrel, while this ghd is 1”, so the actual curls are different radius as expected).
CONCLUSION
Although I love this curling iron, I’m removing a star only because I feel the price is excessive (10x the cost of my previous curling iron). If you curl daily and warm-up time is important to you, you should definitely consider this curling iron. For occasional use, this model is too expensive.
