First, it is nice and small for what it does, but the type C cable is very stiff and doesn't like to bend too easily. This is good for my setup, but might be an issue for some. I get a good reliable 1Gbps Ethernet connection, and I use the standard USB often, because my MacBook only has Type C, and I have many standard USB peripherals.
When I first got it working the HDMI wouldn't work, the Mac didn't see it as a monitor. I used this on my Dell and it worked so I knew it wasn't defective. It took a bunch of trial and error with drivers and then it just started working. You should know there is no exact match for the part on their web site, so I found the items that sounded the closest and tried them, and finally it worked.
So, this is basically my home base station. I have my monitor, Ethernet, and CD drive connected to it at all times. All I have to do is plug in a single cable and they all fire up, no issues, works great. Well, once the drivers were sorted out.
I can't see any lag in display, or bottleneck on Ethernet or CD drive. With all things running at once they all seem to run at full speed. I guess that is the benefit of the Type C connector? It is really great. At first I assumed I would need to have individual plugs for at least video and Ethernet to get full speed, but that's not the case. This thing is a fully functional base station for my new MacBook Pro with the graphical toolbar, the latest one.
So, if you are on the fence you should try it. If you have concerns about the driver just make sure you download the 4 or 5 items that sound close to what this thing is, install them all, and it will work.

-works on XPS 13 9350 under windows 10 and ubuntu 16.04 LTS
-hdmi, Ethernet, and usb works. I don’t own any vga monitors anymore to test the port.
cons
- vga is somewhat useless and I wish they had used DVI. I use all the connectors except for the vga.
-sometimes the ethernet is not detected and it requires unplugging and re-plugging to fix it.
-wish the usb-c cable was longer
Other thoughts
Overall I am happy with my purchase. I researched for days trying to find the right usb-c multi-port adapter that had connections for external monitor and Ethernet. This is also on top of trying to find a properly designed usb-c ,as per google, many manufacturers do not properly follow the usb-c specifications. I reached out to the google engineer that has been testing usb-c cables and he did not intend to test any multi-ports, I ended up taking a chance on this one based on the reviews.
I saw reviews that said this adapter did not work for their xps 13. You have to install dells updated thunderbird/usb-c drivers or else this adapter will not work properly under windows 10. For ubuntu 16.04, this adapter worked out of the box.
This may be a dell hardware issue, but I noticed that the adapter causes my laptop to take 30-32 seconds to get to the dell logo screen. Even when I disable all usb boot options in the bios version 1.4.4, the boot still takes 30-32 seconds. Once I get past the dell logo, I can boot into ubuntu or windows FAST.
Also if your laptop supports usb charging when the power is off, this adapter still draws power. Keep this in mind if you running off battery power for extended periods.
There seems to be low pitch noise from my laptop whenever I have 3 active hdmi, ethernet and usb (phone) connections. If I remove the usb connection routed to my phone, the sound goes away. There is no sound if I move the usb to a port on my laptop instead of the multi-port. The sound is not very loud, but for safety I just charge my phone from the usb port on my laptop.
I only have two complaints about this product, but I won't reduce rating since it isn't major and I am thankful to Cable Matters that they compete with the ridiculous dock manufacturers out there charging 5x as much for essentially the same device. For $50 this is a bargain.
1) I wish the USB-C cable was a little longer. I use a laptop riser for work and with the laptop sitting above my desktop it bends down and puts pressure on the USB-C port on my laptop. It still works fine, but being that my laptop is new I don't want to have that tension on the port since I will be using this laptop and the Cable Matters USB-C dock daily. I want the cable to fit straight in without bending and this is especially hard when you have an HDMI cable, Ethernet cable, and USB cable plugged into the dock so the dock gets heavy. I ended up using some Velcro to hold the dock to my monitor with the USB-C cable sticking out since my laptop sits right next to it and it works fine. It fits in straight with no tension, It would be easier if the cable was at least a foot long.
2) I can't completely diagnose this problem since I barely moved from my Apple 2015 15" Retina MacBook Pro to the 2016 Razer Blade, but my 4K monitor will sometimes crash if I let my laptop go to sleep with the dock plugged in. I have to unplug the monitor and plug it back in for it to work again. I don't know if this is my laptop or the USB-C dock. I do suspect the USB-C dock to be the problem more than the laptop since the monitor has always worked fine with my old laptop and anything else I plugged into it.
Regardless these problems are minor and this is a good buy. I wanted a dock for my old MacBook pro, but Thunderbolt 2 docks are super expensive and they don't have the bandwidth necessary to do everything I need it to with 1 port. With this Thunderbolt 3 dock I can do so much with 1 port for so much cheaper than any other brand. 5-stars!

The implementation isn't obvious - this appears to work with USB type C that supports DisplayPort 1.2 (as opposed to 1.3, which the Dell doesn't support, or super-MHL, which it also doesn't support). I'm not clear whether this is passive and uses HDMI2-over-DisplayPort or whether it's active (internal frame buffer), but it works, and some no-name products from the high street seem to have different compatibility options. The Dell requirements seem to match the retina Macbook, so I'm surprised that there are issues with other devices. However this model works, it does work, so that's the important thing!
Note: This is a lot bigger than the Moshi HDMI-only adaptor, which also seems to be able to do 3840x2160 at 60Hz. However, it's still substantially smaller than the Dell WD15 and doesn't require a power brick (the WD15's is huge) - and unlike the Moshi it adds VGA (which works, though the connector is upside down) and ethernet (which I've not tested but I'm told works), along with a USB3 type A port (not tested). It feels like it could be packaged a little smaller still, and the ~3" fixed cable leaving the device at 90 degrees makes it bigger still (though the comedy bag that has an extension for the cable is nice protection), but it's small enough to fit in an accessories pocket of a laptop bag easily, which I can't say for the WD15. I intend to carry the Moshi for general use, and the Cable Matters on business trips where I might need the extra connectivity options.
