'New Star Foodservice Inc.' is a manufacturer of foodservice equipment and supplies leveraging our expert and adaptable manufacturing abilities. Our professional design and support staff provides essential products to all foodservice businesses.

peels

It is pretty hard to slide the peel under perfectly round pies. With the New Star Foodservice Restaurant-Grade Pizza peel, it can be as easy as pie. This pizza peel is a great pick featuring a tapered blade that easily slides under the pie without damaging it. The all-natural basswood construction makes it durable and long-lasting. Properly textured wood prevents any secretion of oils, keeping the original taste of your delicious baked items. Comfort grip handles of the peel provide optimal control and firm hold to reduce fatigue while transferring pizzas, cakes, and much more. It also keeps your hands safely away from the heat while taking them out of the oven.

The wooden construction of the pizza peel makes it an all-natural tool for your kitchen. Lightweight basswood adds better control when transferring pizza and its durable construction makes it a workhorse for fast-paced kitchens.

Expert Craftmanship

Carved from a single wooden piece, the construction doesn't feature any rivets or hidden spaces for food items to hide. This is much more than just a pizza peel, as you can use it to lift cakes, muffin pans, or even as a presentation board for your guests.

Natural Wood

While maintaining the traditional wooden appearance, this pizza peel features a comfortable grip handle and half-inch tapered blade. The blade makes the pie slide easily into the oven, while the handle provides optimal control and grip.

Works well, but needs finishing

Works well, but needs finishing
I bought this and it was completely fresh wood. I put pizza onto it and it quickly stained. I tried to wash it with soap and water but that made things worse! The wood was very soft and started to scrape away so I had to put some effort into finishing the peel.First, get the wood wet and wipe it down. This will make all the wood fibers start to stand up.Second, get some 220 and 320 grit sandpaper. Other grit will do but this is what I used. Sand it down until smooth to get a real nice finish. Wipe off the wood shavings.Lastly, buy some food grade mineral oil and put a healthy amount on one side and wipe it off with a cloth or paper towel. Do this for both sides. Repeat this process 2-3 times over the next 2 days as the oil gets soaked into the wood. Now you have a nicely finished peel that looks much better!

This implement provides an easy transfer of a pizza to the pizza stone! My wife is the household pizza chef and she loves it. The wood is light, making handling easy. I have recommendations to maximize use and life of this peel:

When packaging is removed, immediately oil your peel! I use Boos Mystery Oil, which is food grade but any non-flavoring cooking oil (ie. canola, sunflower or avocado oil is fine. This allows washing the peel without it absorbing water and prevents the wood from cracking. Never use soap on a wooden tool, nor put in the dishwasher. It may scorch a bit on the edge, but that's ok -- that's character--haha!

Before laying your pizza dough on the peel, be sure to rub it with either corn meal or corn flour -- and test, ensuring your pizza dough can slide AFTER you've assembled your pizza; else, nothing is worse than your pizza sticking to your peel and NOT transferring to the pizza stone!

When your pizza is baked, we use a stainless steel peel to remove -- just in case some sticky cheese is lurking between the pizza crust and the stone.

Good luck and enjoy!

This came a day late but arrived just as I was making pizza dough. It isn’t what I expected, is a little rough and very lightweight but pizza slid in the oven easily. It does not have a hole in the handle to gang it up, so is awkward to store. I decided to keep it because I made 6 pizzas and they all slid beautifully into the oven. This is very plain, very rough (needs sanding), very lightweight, seems cheaply made, and not the pizza peel I would have liked (the one I want had been sold out for months) but it cost less than the one I wanted and it’s better than using my airbake cookie sheet to slide pizzas into the oven so I’ll sand it, figure out if I need to add mineral oil or some kind of safe finish so it doesn’t get mold and drill a hole in the handle so I can hang it up somewhere. (Ugh- it’s not pretty)

All in all I wish I’d sent this back or just waited for the better one to come in stock.

Here’s an update 8 mo this later: this wasn’t what it looked like in the add, and I was disuwhen it arrived, BUT, I use it at least twice a week. It’s not pretty, I didn’t hang it on my wall, I couldn’t actually because there’s no hole In The handle, so I store it away and pull it out when I’m making bread, pizza, roaring vegetables in a shallow pan, it makes getting things out of the oven easier. I’d never do that with the pretty pizza paddle of my dreams, but this one’s become a ver utilitarian tool in my kitchen-I marked one side for pizza/bread only, and the other side unfailingly slides gracefully under whatever I need. It shows no sign of breaking down soon. The original crack is still there with no real Change- so it takes on every job with ease. As I travel I’m still on the lookout for my perfect pizza peel- it’ll make perfect pizzas just like this one- but display on my kitchen wall. Until then, this ugly duckling is study, light, maneuverable and easy to use. I added an extra star. I’ve grown to appreciate it. I never did drill a hole to hang it up- it’s not something I want to look at or be reminded of, but this thin, cheap Lu made, lightweight, peel is working for me in ways I’d never use a nicer peel/ and it was really inexpensive. I almost feel like adding 2 stars, but let’s face it/ it’s just not a 5 star pizza peel.

My old pizza peel (thought it was a spatula but now I know better) came with a kit and I thought it was fine. It finally gave up the ghost. Bought this one because of price and decent reviews. Glad I did. It arrives in the raw, blonde, no finish and a little rough on the surface. I'm not sure if the rough surface is normal or not but I figured it would help the cooked pizza stay on the peel when removing it from the oven. I decided not to sand the surface smooth and gave it a rubdown in linseed oil. It took the linseed oil very well and didn't change the coloration much at all. It's just ever so slightly darker. Now I feel like I have some protection for the wood without going to some kind of surface seal. Linseed oil is a natural product and it works great for wooden tool handles and gun stocks and looks better and better over time. Pictures are of both sides, post linseed oil treatment and after first use.

Put it to use and it I like the light weight a lot. I also like that it's thin so it slides between the pizza and the stone nicely. This will get used and abused and it feels like it'll take it. It cleaned up easily by the way.

I'd buy this again, no doubt. Good product.

Checked out a LOT of peels before deciding on this one. It is perfectly balanced and I have been using it for two months without a ruined pizza. I just rub in some flour and the raw dough slides off beautifully. I'm using in with a pizza stone in a gas oven. I am careful not to spill any ingredients on the wood, and simply wipe it off with a damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly before storing it in an old pillow case on the top of my fridge. If I spill something on it, I just use a damp cloth with some dish soap. I try to keep the peel as dry as possible to stop the wood from swelling and so far, so good. NOTE: I do not use this peel to remove the pizza. i just use a standard round plate and some tongs to drag the pizza onto the plate. Love this peel.

This pizza peel does the job, but I can tell it isn’t going to hold up well. The wood is rough and separating slightly in places after 10-12 uses, strictly for removing pizza from oven and cutting. I’m not immersing it in water (just wiping and rinsing clean, air drying .). I’ve even tried oiling it to preserve wood better. I will get a metal pizza peel in the future.

This pizza peel is wonderful! It’s a good size, especially if you want to make pizzas that are not too large and make, perhaps, a couple with different toppings. I was afraid at first that the raw dough would stick to it, but with a generous sprinkling of semolina rimacinata (finely ground semolina) the pizza slides off like a charm.

There is no need to wash it afterwards, just thoroughly brush off the semolina afterwards and you’re ready to go. I use it with my cast iron pizza pan which is heated in the oven for about half an hour.

I heartily recommend it!
