The instant New York Times bestseller

"This beguiling series opener...checks all the boxes for romantasy veterans." –
Publishers Weekly

The scariest school on earth
Is about to experience real fear…

Most schools are about being the best. This school? It’s about being the worst. Calder Academy is where the rogue paranormals go. The ones who break the rules or lose control. And when that happens for vamps, werewolves, witches, and dark fae? It gets pretty freaking scary.

I should know. Because I’m trapped here.

Look, every seventeen-year-old girl thinks their mom is a tyrant. But mine just happens to run Calder Academy, which paints a giant target on my back. The way I make it through these dark halls is by steering clear of the things―and kids―who go bump in the night.

Especially Jude Abernathy-Lee.

But when a freak storm hits our isolated island, I'm stuck without a backup plan. The power is gone. The lights are out. And our worst nightmares are suddenly real―and out for blood.
Now the only way to survive is to align myself with one evil to avoid the other.

And the only thing worse than the idea of getting close to Jude? Secretly loving every minute of it.

The Calder Academy series is best enjoyed in order.

From start to finish, I was glued to the pages. This resulted in sleep loss, but I don’t regret it. I mean really, has anyone ever said, “Just one more chapter” and actually stuck to it?Told primarily from the point of view of seventeen-year-old Clementine Calder, yes, you read that correctly. The school is located on a secluded island in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Galveston, Texas. Meaning she has never shifted or used her magic because a spell blocks students from doing so.Jude Abernathy-Lee, also seventeen, is a oneiroi. He has been at the academy for ten years which is unheard of as usually students come in their early teens. This changes when the two are forced to partner together for a Brit Lit assignment. For Clementine, this is a nightmare. But things can and do get worse. It's summertime in Texas and that means tropical storms and hurricanes. What starts as a seemingly inconsequential tropical storm turns into a massive category five hurricane in a matter of hours and it has the island and school in its sites. Unexplainable things start to occur and Clementine's mother Camilla, the headmistress, decides that the school will evacuate to higher ground. But Jude is hiding a huge secret that could be everyone's undoing.I have nothing but praise for Sweet Nightmare. I loved the characters of Clementine and Jude. Clementine is a really strong character, though she thinks she's weak at times. She has a heart the size of Texas. Jude is a brooding hero who is a tortured soul but is probably the best out of everyone on the island. They have great chemistry. And despite not talking to each other for three years, they never stopped truly caring for each other. They are braver than they think they are. The secondary characters of their friends were great as well and often added humor to tense moments. And there are a lot of tense and shocking moments. First the book itself. I love the red sprayed edges… but, unfortunately there is a good amount of bleed, pages stuck together, and the pages themselves were a bit thin. Still looks lovely on a shelf, and fits well with the rest of the parent series. That being said, I enjoyed the story, it’s fast paced and builds off the original series. I highly suggest you read the original crave series first although it’s not necessary as the book does stand on its own just fine. There are two characters in the book that were in the main series (which imo could have been better entwined), there are also a few references to the main series which were fun to read.
As stated this works well as a stand alone offshoot, and I enjoyed the characters and the setting was really entertaining. Overall I really enjoyed it and I am excited to see where the journey continues.

There is something I loved about this book that has nothing to do with the story itself, and that is the chapter titles! They were so good, and perfect, and I have just learned Tracy Wolff also does in her Crave series. If that wasn't enough to make me want to read that series, how much I loved Sweet Nightmare has definitely cemented my desire to dive into her other works.

I first started Sweet Nightmare with the thought of picking it up for an hour or so before going to bed.. and ended up reading the entire book in one sitting! It had me from the first page and it only got better as the story progressed. I loved Camilla and her friends, the setting of the school and the storm was atmospheric and so well-written I felt like I was there. Jude and Camilla have the best love/ hate, will they/won't they thing that is happening, and every time they are together on page sparks fly. The action was fast-paced and intense, I couldn't put it down. I loved the twists and turns and those reveals OMG!
I loved that while school is a last resort for these kids, they still build friendships and work together to survive. This is also the kind of place, especially with all those roaming nightmares where not everyone we meet is going to make it to the end. And Tracy Wolff did such an amazing job writing this that even those who died off the page had me feeling all the feels.
Sweet Nightmare is fun, fast-paced, intense, action-packed, and through all that still had me laughing out loud. I can't wait for the next book! It's a good thing I have the Crave series to keep me occupied.

Please don't spend money on this garbage. Almost 15 Euros for a kindle edition. I thought I would at least get a semi-enjoyable hate-read out of this (like with crave), but this dumpster fire of a book is even too subpar for that. I wish I could get my money back but, alas, it's too late for me. Save yourself.
