I just finished the audiobook (excellently narrated!) and unwrapped my hard copy today! This book was so well worth the wait. It’s complex enough for a political junkie like me while still being concise and informative for those who may be newer to (or at least not as hopelessly lost in) politics as myself.

I love the book, I love the podcast, I’ve been a listener of Crooked Media’s audio work for 5 years now, so I expected to like the book. But I didn’t expect how much more hopeful I would feel after reading (listening!) to it.

I joined Audible yesterday just so I could specifically listen to Democracy or Else. I consumed this entire audiobook in one sitting. I plan to go back & listen again & take some notes this time around. Personally, I prefer to read physical books. So I'm sorry Audible, but audiobooks generally aren't my thing but I made the exception for Democracy or Else.

I absolutely LOVE PSA & listen to them ALL the time. When I pre-ordered Democracy or Else I knew I wanted to hear this in Jon, John & Tommy's voices. In many ways, this book... perhaps guide would be a better description, was more than I expected it to be. There are so many excellent step by step invaluable suggestions, anecdotes & references offered to understand all of the available volunteer options. Democracy or Else shares what one can expect within whichever step the listener may be considering or never before contemplated. My favorite feature of this book is how it offers real, tangible actions everyone from the shyest of individuals to the most social of extroverts can take to help save our democracy.

The information that I receive from listening daily to PSA is always excellent, funny & often inspirational. It's also true that many liberal media broadcast both online & on cable offer much of the same information. The reason PSA is one of my favorites to listen to, is the interaction between Tommy, Jon & John. It always has me laughing. Quite literally, NOTHING that this country is enduring is funny. Yet by PSA bringing humor to the table, makes our collective national nightmare somewhat... palatable.

So here is my 5th Star suggestion. If there are future books on the horizon between John, Tommy & Jon, rather than each of you solely recording a chapter on your own, please consider adding a bonus Audiobook feature. The three of you should banter or debate suggested strategies back & forth, because as podcasters that's where your magic is and where the three of you truly shine.

Since the 1980's I've been looking for an off set to right wing media. The book a necessary summation of the political process in this country. As much as they struggle summarizing it, I would say it is good summation of how politics works. It is for the common reader. I fit the bill. Reading it can help calm you down and face the challenge of America. For those put off by a lack of pedigree, or too much pedigree, I would say the collection of observations here are reasoned, enjoyable, and worth a read. Literally, they are talking like adults.

Want to know how you can help save America and help promote your favorite politicians or causes? There are different ways, and this book has the answers for you. Throughout the book there are funny cartoons, hilarious anecdotes and campaign stories, and great advice from the other familiar faces/voices at Crooked Media. As someone who listens to these guys multiple times a week, their voice comes through in this book in spectacular form, and I’m here for it.
