This was AMAZING. I've long been a Rick Riordan fan but I am now mama to an 8 year old boy who HATES to read. He loves being read to, and we have started with some of the stories I was enchanted by as kind/teen/young adult.
He like Harry Potter but I stumbled across this illustrated version after I read the Heroes of Olympus series for myself. I thought he would love it and I was right! He is enthralled by the pictures, which were BREATH TAKING and excited by the story line. This book is pretty advanced for average 2nd graders, lots of big words, full of Greek words because it's fiction based off of Greek Mythology. So amazing though. Everyone looked just like I had always pictured in my head!
Usually we do 1 chapter a night, but when we started reading The Lightning Theif, often we read 3 per night because he was BEGGING to see/hear more.
We were SO EAGER to get our hands on the second one, and I was SO BUMMED that I could find it- as it turns out they didn't illustrate any further, the closes I can get are the graphic novels, AKA the comic book versions and it is just NOT the same thing. 😭

Came ripped and taped!
The book itself is beautiful. However mine arrive with multiple tears on the book jacket and had been taped. I wanted to exchange it but it only allowed returns...and I'd return and purchase again except the price is now $20 higher than when I ordered. It was a birthday gift for someone and I. Super disappointed in the appearance.
