What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?

After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.

The truth is out there, if we just listen.

Review

Listen for the Lie is a page-turner from the first sentence to the very last. In addition to being a world-class whodunit, full of carefully doled-out twists, Lucy is a terrific character, feisty and funny and, it turns out, brave as hell. It’s great fun. Readers will rip through this one.”
Stephen King

“Original and deliciously dark with a wicked sense of humor. An addictive page-turner that will keep you guessing until the end.”

Favorite book this year!!
📚 Book Review-Listen for the Lie 📚⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⚡️whodunit⚡️true crime podcast⚡️small town murder⚡️lost memoriesYou guys I’m so excited to talk about my favorite book of the year 😍😍!!!!This is a classic whodunit thriller. Lucy is found one morning covered in her murdered, best friend’s blood. Of course, Lucy has no memory of what happened and everyone thinks Lucy is the murderer. Five years later, a true crime podcast puts the murder in the spotlight again, and Lucy returns home to finally see if she can remember that tragic night . . .and to see if she is exactly what everyone thinks she is.This book kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. Every few chapters I had a new theory as to what happened. I was so enthralled I finished this in 24 hours! Quite a feat with two toddlers lol.I will say, I listened to most of this on Audible bc I was driving home from vacation. Due to the podcast aspect of the story, I think the audio book is the best way to go. I’m shocked I’m saying that, but this audio was really good. What’s your favorite book of the year?#thriller

Listen for the Lie
by Amy Tintera
4/5 ⭐️

Lucy Chase may have forgotten Plumpton but Plumpton has not forgotten her. It is hard to ignore the girl who supposedly murdered her best friend but does not remember anything. Savvy Harper was the town’s sweetheart and a charmer, especially with the men. Lucy and Savvy were inseparable so everyone was shocked when Lucy was found roaming the streets covered in Savvy’s blood. Five years have passed since that horrible night and Lucy has moved on to start fresh in LA.

When a family event brings Lucy home, she is forced to face the past. Not only does she have to answer to the town, but Ben Owens, a famous true-crime podcaster shows up and has questions for Lucy. Lucy has never spoken to anyone or given an interview until now. She decides to help Ben with his podcast “Listen for the Lie” and solve Savvy’s murder once and for all. Even if this means she could be the one who did it.

Listen for the Lie was a fast-paced, twisty mystery that I could not put down. The writing format alternated among real-time, flashbacks and Ben’s podcasts. The best part of this compelling thriller was its dark humor. Also, Lucy is a phenomenal character with her sass and sense of humor. She is a hot mess but her quick wit and sarcasm make her very likable. I have a few complaints about this book. The first one is the amnesia trope is overdone! And the second one is Lucy’s family is appalling; everyone except her grandmother. Lastly, I have so many questions about the ending. Lucy makes a very vague statement that leaves me bewildered. I like mysteries wrapped up neatly with a bow.

Enjoyable, well written, believable dialogue. The mystery captivated me to a certain point. I wasn't on the edge of my seat most of the time, but that was ok.
I really liked the audiobook - both the narrator and the format (switching between book chapters and podcast episodes). One review I read mentioned that the reviewer found the intro/outro music to the podcasts irksome, it was the opposite for me. Felt like a real podcast. (It was no Serial, but what is? 😉)
Overall happy I used my Audible credit on this 👍🏻

There was some comparison involved….. How about reading LISTEN FOR THE LIE, and see what YOU think ? Definitely worthy of that

This is the third podcast themed mystery I have read and it was BY FAR the best one. A million times better than “All The Dangerous Things” & “None Of This Is True”. With that said, if you happened to like those titles you will absolutely love Listen For The Lie. Our MC Lucy, is accused of murdering her best friend but she has no memory of the night of the murder as she herself had significant head injuries. After podcaster, Ben, picks the cold case for his podcast, Lucy is forced to return home and begins to put the pieces together. Lucy has such a sarcastic, no nonsense personality and because of that I instantly liked her even though the whole town hates her. It was exciting, gripping and a total page turner. Loved it!

This book was such a fun read and had me from the first line: "A podcaster has decided to ruin my life, so I'm buying a chicken".

Amy Tintera's writing is so witty it had me laughing out loud on a regular basis. I enjoyed following the main character Lucy as she tried to find out who was behind her best friend's murder while struggling with her inner psychopathic voice and wondering whether it had been her all along (she had amnesia so has no idea what happened that night, a fun twist on the unreliable narrator trope).

Highly recommended for fans of Holly Jackson, Gillian Flynn, and those with a dark sense of humour.

Lucy is reluctantly returning to her hometown to celebrate her grans 80th birthday. Reluctant because she is the only suspect in her best friend, Savvy's murder. Last time she was there she was found injured, covered in her friends blood and carrying her murder weapon! Lucy suffered a brain injury during the incident and jas no memory of what happened to Savvy, but crime podcasts Ben is there to solve this crime and Lucy agrees ro help him uncover the truth!
Lucy is a brilliant character...flawed, witty with a dark sense of humour and a voice in her head driving her to kill. I loved the podcast aspect of this book and slowly uncovering lots of secrets that led to Savvys murder. Its a compelling read. There were a lot of characters introduced and keeping up with how they all linked was a bit of work at times. The ending was very unexpected...definitely not the way I personally expected or would have liked. Don't trust anyone!
