The Shure A58WS Windscreen is designed with acoustically transparent foam to reduce unwanted breath and wind noise without affecting the sound quality. It is particularly effective in reducing pops and ticks caused by talking or singing closely into the microphone as well as reducing wind noise when using the microphones in outdoor applications. For use with all larger Shure “ball-type” microphones including the SM58, Beta58A, SM48, and the 565SD microphones. Available in 6 colors to easily identify mic channels from a distance when using multiple microphones on stage.

Low cost and does the job
For the price, this windscreen does a good job at stopping wind noise and also softening plosives ( the sounds made when pronouncing letters like P's or B's). I didn't notice any kind of chemical smell which can be found with some of the other off brand alternatives found on Amazon. I have noticed that it seems to deaden the higher end a little bit, but nothing that can't be corrected with a little eq. I wish that it fit tighter around the bottom of the ball. It's not going to slip off, I just think it would look better.

These are quality fitting foam covers that do the job soooo much better than the cheap foam covers. Other covers will muffle sound and hurt your recording while not even able to block the “poof” sound when you spit into the mic. These are professional, come in different colors and do the job exactly as advertised. Ask me how I know? Because I ordered the others and had to send them all back because of shoddy craftsmanship. These are on my mics, will stay on my mics and I can use them anywhere on my SM58 microphones.

The wind reduction is good for normal conditions (I’m sure you’ll still hear some noise in the middle of a gale storm.) They are thicker than the super cheap ones you buy in bulk packs, and the foam seems to be better quality. These are a staple for any professional audio set up.
