    Product Description

    The Panasonic eneloop BQ-CC55, 4-position Ni-MH battery charger can quickly, and individually charge any combination of up to four AA or AAA eneloop batteries in just 3 hours (one to two AA or AAA batteries can be fully charged in up to just 1.5 hours). Individual charging means you can easily and efficiently charge from 1 to 4 batteries with differing levels of remaining charge. A huge time saver! The CC55 charger also features 4 individual LED charge indicator lights. Once batteries are installed, the charger measures each cell and the corresponding light indicates the remaining charge; Green 80 to 100%, Orange 20% to 80%, and Red 0% to 20%. After each battery reaches the next level of charging the LED light changes to indicate the cells charge level. Once the battery is completely charged, the LED light turns off for that cell. Ideal for use at home, in the office, or on the road, this Panasonic CC55 charger is a quick and convenient way to recharge any combination of up to four AA or AAA Ni-MH eneloop, eneloop pro, or conventional Panasonic Ni-MH rechargeable batteries.

    Great charger for NiMH batteries
    I ordered this charger for the Panasonic BK-3MCCA8BA Eneloop AA 2100 Cycle Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries (Pack of 8) I bought for my camera flash. I like the bright LED lights that change color depending on how much charge the battery in that slot has. I also like that AA and AAA batteries can be charged at the same time with no problems. So far I find that it is easy to use and does not need much supervision. I have not charged any batteries from empty yet so I do not know how long it takes but I will update when I do, I like to keep my batteries topped off even if they are not empty just in case. I would recommend this charger for anybody using rechargeable NiMH batteries.

While that charger (and the included batteries) has performed well and has been very reliable, it only charges in pairs so I decided to upgrade to a smart charger capable of charging cells individually.

    Some reviewers of the BQ-CC55 noted that the batteries get too hot or complained of noise coming from the charger while in use. Charging two Energizer 2000 mAh AA cells at a time, the batteries did get warm but not hot. It also charges those two AA cells in about an hour and-a-half which is quite a bit faster than the 3-4 hours it takes for the Energizer charger. After using the charger for the fourth time, I did notice very faint, sporadic, high-pitched beeps that I didn't notice the previous times I used it. Since then, I haven't heard any sound produced by the charger so it's a non-issue.

    The colored LED status indicators are well-designed and one of the best features of this charger in addition to the fast, smart charging. The lights begin at red (<20%), turn to yellow (20%-80%), then green (80%+). Charging is complete once the LED shuts off after turning green. One feature I like better in the Energizer charger are the audible tones generated when the charging process starts and when it finishes. It's helpful to have an audible alert when charging has finished in case the charger isn't within line-of-sight, but that's a small nit. The BQ-CC55 is a step up from the Energizer Pro Charger and the one I wish I had bought in the first place.

    UPDATE 02/2019: After a year and four months of using this charger a few times a month, it developed strange high-pitched electronic noises (the closest sound I can compare it to is electronic squeaking). I've read other reviews which described this issue and now I have it also. The noise fluctuates in volume and also changes tone so it isn't one consistent type of noise.

    It seems the charger still works just fine as the batteries were charged to full capacity. It's just that the noise is annoying and an unwanted development in a lightly-used product. Hopefully, it's a minor issue and one that won't affect the charger's performance in the long run because this a a really good product otherwise.

    UPDATE 07/2019: Ever since the one instance when the charger started emitting sound, the sound has vanished. Thankfully, it was a temporary issue. I've used it many times since then and it's been silent. After 2 years of use, this charger is still working very well.

    I am surprised how much of a better job this product does at charging my batteries. I bought an Energizer recharger in 2019 and recently noticed how my several-year-old AA betteries were lasting a pretty short time with my Apple mouse. With this Panasonic charger they are lasting 2-4 times longer. And the LED lights are useful to identify bad batteries.

    Well worth the money.

    I think I reviewed the batteries that go along with this before. This charger is fantastic! Quick, easy charging! Just be sure to only charge like batteries! This charger, as well as others, do not like mismatches! I would recommend this over others, just for the faster y! Love it!

    TLDR; Perhaps the Amazon Basics batteries are okay, but the charger is horrible incorrectly detecting batteries as "bad", and it can only handle charging in pairs. Get a Panasonic/Enerloop charger and bring your Amazon zombies back from the dead.

    I've read and noticed differences in the longevity and lifespan of Amazon batteries. I rationalized buying them over single-use batteries since I could get multiple uses out of them. But so many times the Amazon charger would flash red meaning the batteries "were bad" supposedly after only a couple uses. And since you have to charge two at a time, you never knew which was "bad". I'd end up swapping pairs and driving myself mad in permutations of combinations in a pile of dead batteries.

    After much frustration and research I decided to switch to Enerloop batteries, the ones made in Japan (some are made in China). After receiving the batteries and quick charger, I decided to try and charge some of my old Amazon batteries that were being recognized as "bad". Miraculously they came back to life, being spared from the garbage bin. Not only that, but ones that were showing as fully charged in the Amazon charger were able to be even further charged for more power.

    I understand that the Amazon batteries are rechargeable and cheaper than alternatives, but if you only get a couple uses before they show as "bad" and they never get a full charge then they aren't much of an upgrade from single use which are far cheaper.
