Phenomenal.
5 out of 5 stars
Phenomenal.
This is such a marvelously executed game, it's beautifully rendered in 2-D but with a fluid environment as you maneuver through it. It's interesting to have a character that takes up so little of the screen, it really allows for some interesting stage designs.I apologize that my picture does not do this game proper justice. It's just one of those gems that you really have to experience for yourself. If you're into Metroid or later Castlevania games, you're going to feel right at home, gameplay-wise. And at $15, that's just the icing on the cake.I bought the XBox One version, which comes with the original game and the "Definitive Edition," as well as a separate disc with the soundtrack to play on any CD player. Best game purchase in a long time. Right up there with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. This game is gorgeous, it plays so fluidly, and it's just an all-out home run, straight outta the park. Hats off to the programmers, the world needs more of these kind of games that speak to the hardcore old-school gamers and also the adventurous new players that didn't get to try this sort of game when the genre first came out.In the event that I wasn't astoundingly clear and you've read this far - stop. Just click the little icon and put this game in your cart. Trust me.

There's a good reason so many reviews have taken care to mention that this game is "on-disc". Lately Microsoft has had a terrible track record of either sloppiness or malfeasance depending on your point of view. Several prominent titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Halo 5, Rare Replay and Quantum Break seem like they were trojan horse style exercises in forcing users to connect to XBOX Live in order to use content that had no intrinsic need for a network connection - either because they didn't allow the necessary time to complete development before release, or because they're trying to desensitize customers traditionally conscious of and adverse to the disadvantages of "digital" distribution. This all seemed to be an attempt to steal back some of the control fantasy they lost when consumers went into open revolt after they announced XBOX One was to be always connected and even physical games would be "used up" when activated. Taken in a historical context this is an awful precedent because it damages the collectability of a game. It doesn't matter if the patches needed to complete the game are provided free - game consoles are closed systems which means that the onlne service is the only place those patches can ever be obtained. When Live for XBOX 360 is retired in the next few years, there will be an entire generation of games that can no longer be played as intended because the necessary patches will no longer be available.

I'm extremely pleased to communicate that not only is the complete game and its definitive upgrade playable from the disc without Live, there are no pieces missng or patches - it's all there, and it just works.

As a gamer who cut his teeth on the original Super Mario Bros., side-scrollers have always been my favorite format. This game is the perfect evolution of 2D side-scrolling adventure. The hand-drawn visuals are stunning - especially the thematic use of contrast - points of light in darkness are hauntingly beautiful. The controls feel natural and intuitive - especially as you progress and earn new abilities. Gameplay follows the tried-and-true upgrade-gated methodology popularized by Super Metriod and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - that is to say that your path has branches that will not be accessible until you gain new abilities and return. In this way the adventure feels larger than the strict size of the environment, and advancement feels more meaningful and rewarding. The puzzles feel very organic and not contrived, and the action ranges from calming to downright nail-biting. The audio is captivating and really takes advantage of full-range speakers or headphones. This game truly is a masterpiece and shouldn't be missed.

This game is truly something special.
When purchasing I was looking for a game that was somewhere between a Triple A title and an Indie game that I could sink about 15-20 hours into and this game fits that perfectly.
Graphics - Absolutely stunning. This game has the visual style of games like Child of Light and Unravel. A gorgeous landscape beautifully rendered for the 2d landscape that you are playing on. Everything from the cutscenes to actual gameplay looks and runs flawlessly. The game is generally pretty bright though it can go from very bright to pitch black levels and still retain its incredible atmosphere that the game creates.
Controls - Some of the best and tightest controls I've ever felt in a game. If you mess up by missing a jump, you know it is your fault. If you fail to dash past an enemy, it's because you were too late hitting the button. As you unlock new moves and abilities the world truly opens to you as you start being able to chain together some extremely fluid movements to reach those hard to get spots on the map. By the end of the game it truly feels like you have mastered all the game has to offer as you beautifully and effortlessly move through levels. The controls, for me, are the best part of the game.
Gameplay - Although I am not really a fan of stories where there is no narration or obvious plot, the story was cute enough and generally easy to follow. The story is definitely secondary though and the gameplay and mechanics truly set this game above others. With each ability point I found and each new perk I unlocked, I could not wait to test it out in game and use it to either back track and find a hidden spot I couldn't get to previously or to find a newer, easier way to defeat enemies that were giving me a problem. There's a good variety of enemies, all with different abilities and strengths/weaknesses for your to learn how to deal with. Most of the game is spent trying to explore areas of the map and defeat the 3 (or 4? havent played in a month or so) main "dungeons". Most of the main "dungeons" have the main puzzle solving in the game which had the perfect amount of difficulty that never felt unfair. These main areas will test your puzzle solving as well as your ability to master your moves, all of them ending with a great, super fast, super intense running stage that once you pass gives you a great feeling of satisfaction.

Overall - A stunning, beautiful, piece of art that just happens to be a video game. Controls are great, game looks beautiful, and one of the games that I had no problem playing until I beat it 100%. Do yourself a favor and pick this gem up, you will not regret it.

I absolutely love this game! When the kids finally go to bed I sneak off to play my time since they are not interested in watching mom play. The beginning is a bit slow to get through the intro to the story, the back story, and figure out what you are trying to accomplish (like maybe 20 minutes) but it is beautiful, has wonderful background music and it does explain why you are running through the forest etc..

I like that you slowly get the ability to use different buttons as you go through the game. That way you are not lost and trying to figure out what button does what action. At first all you can do is run and jump - as you accomplish tasks Ori gains ability to defend, grab walls etc.

The hardest part for me is the jumping, wall climbing etc. but was never good doing those moves like you need to do in super mario type games. This game is appropriate for all ages - you do need to be able to read. There is a lot of story to read along the way.

I had no idea that is also came with an audio disk - I have not listened to it yet - but it was a pleasant surprise.

Es una lástima que no exista la versión física para Europa y tener que importarlo desde EEUU. El juego es un metroidvania con una excelente calidad visual, sonora y jugable. Imprescindible dentro del catalogo de Xbox One.
