Product Description
Standard Edition includes the game on disc and a key to redeem the Granblue Special Item Set “Relink pack” within the original Granblue Fantasy game. Take to the skies to explore the Sky Realm, a world where islands of all shapes and sizes float in a sea of clouds. It is a world forsaken by the gods. Once upon a time, people known as the Astrals attempted to seize control of this world with their overwhelming might, but the citizens of the skies repelled the invaders, thus ushering in a new era of peace. Living on a little-known island in a remote part of the skies, you find a letter left behind by your father telling you to set off for a legendary island. However, before you leave, you meet a mysterious girl named Lyria, inevitably setting the wheels of fate in motion as you take your role as captain of a skyfaring crew. Joined by Lyria and a scrappy little dragon named Vyrn, sail together with a colorful cast of crewmates, including kings and misfits alike, for Estalucia, a fabled island beyond the end of the skies. In the Zegagrande Skydom, islands are guarded by powerful creatures known as primal beasts and winds carry tales of a secretive organization known as the Church of Avia. Unveil a web of intrigue reaching far beyond the borders of Zegagrande and engage in a battle for the fate of the Sky Realm itself.

In 3 days I already sunk close to 30 hrs in, I'm seriously hooked. If you have remote interest in action RPG / farming endless for the best gear / FF14 style gimmick battle, get this, now!
I was also surprised by how amazing soundtrack is.

You know one of those games that you play and it becomes a chore because it is so long that you can't wait to finish it to continue playing the next one on your backlog? Well, this game is nothing like that. Believe me, my backlog is huge but I can't stop playing this game.
First of all, I’m not a Granblue fanboy, I don’t have or intend to buy its VS game or play the mobile game for instance. That being said here is my review:
Pros:
Excellent vibrant color and anime-like visuals. Characters have cross-hatching drawings in their clothes’ shadows like a manga.
The controllers are extremely responsive, unlike Monster Hunter, there is no animation lock so moves can be canceled at any reasonable time, and the gameplay and combat are very, very fluid.
There are plenty of unique and full of personality characters to choose from, definitely, you will find one that fits your playstyle. Each character has a mastery tree that you can unlock statuses and skills that can be chosen and assigned to the customizable skill buttons.
The game's story never gets too deep or long, for some people this might be a con but, even though the story is not long, it is quite engaging, and it has a decent closure, unlike Final Fantasy 16. Still, if you are just in for a deeper longer story JRPG and character involvement, go with Tales Of Arise instead. You would be missing a lot of fun though.
Once you complete the whole story, you can replay it by using the chapter selector, get any missing treasure reported that you forgot (wee pincer crabs for instance) and immediately exit the chapter, unless you still want to continue. The game keeps whatever additional progress you get.
You unlock hunts/Skyfarers quests as you play the story and unlock more advanced quests and ranks as you complete those.
The replayability of the endgame is insane and addictive, so much stuff to do, characters to unlock, complete their mastery trees, gather sigils, forge weapons, upgrade them, imbue them, unlock higher difficult levels, and much much more that even grinding never becomes a chore and can even be done AFK with the game settings for each 10 of the same quests in a row if you want, I still prefer to grind myself though as the combat is so good.
I haven't played online myself but even playing solo, the game feels like playing a MMORPG with the AI companions, who are very talkative and more interesting than having Palicos like those in the Monster Hunter games.
Bosses mechanics are super cool like Guild Wars 2 MMORPG’s world bosses or fractals and, they provide the right and reasonable amount of challenge per level as you progress, increase your rank and get better equipment.
Even though the game is not a Dark Souls, the game will still push you to learn each boss mechanic, especially on higher difficult quest ranks, but it will never become something irritating, as your companions will be there to assist you. It is possible to go 1 character solo on quests as well if that is what you want.
It is also possible to skip quest hunt grinding until later during the game when reaching the Maniac level since just completing the story, side quests, and at least once each Skyfarers’ quest will give you enough gear to get you there.
You can save your character loadouts (profiles/current configuration of equipment, skills and so on) or the whole party sets to easily switch them for different quests.
The English voices are great! There is also the possibility to use Japanese voices instead. There are multiple language options for subtitles.
The game comes with a few cosmetic characters’ color variations, which do not impact the gameplay.
The crafting system is awesome and it is possible to add the items you need for crafting something to an in-game Wishlist to filter the quests where you can get those items from.
The game respects your play time as there are additional quality-of-life features such as fast travels to places, specific town locations or directly to the NPCs to deliver and complete side quests. There are still some boss fights that take more than 20 minutes but they are lots of fun and you won’t feel the time passing.
There are easy repeatable end-game side quests that encourage and help to level up all alt characters masteries.
You can trade in-game vouchers to transmute sigils in order to try to get a random sigil or wrightstone to improve your equipment, which feels like a very addictive lottery mini-game. You go to the quest counter, complete a few quests, exchange the materials for vouchers and use them to try your luck on it. The higher your Skyfarer rank and respectively your transmutation level are the better items you get.
Customizable emojis, stickers, and chat messages dial/wheel with plenty of options to choose and select from, as well as a few auto expressions you can set, mostly to facilitate multiplayer communication.
Cons:
Don’t expect any romance in this game as the story is very light, just like the anime that can be watched on Crunchyroll or the first episodes for free on the official Cygames Youtube channel.
There is currently no way to create a custom character and choose whatever skill you want from a general mastery tree. You can select one of the existing charismatic characters only.
Throwing objects in the game uses the same circle button as the Link feature so if you are holding something and are about to throw it to complete a quest objective and the Link opportunity pops up at that time, it will perform the link, drop and destroy the object and might cause you to miss the chance to complete the objective, what is quite annoying.
A few times the target lock mechanism selects by mistake another target during fierce crowded fights.
Currently, for the core game, there are just 2 towns. Even though the game takes you through multiple sky islands that you can replay later, there are only 2 towns for the endgame.
Non-main characters are not even included in the main story and there is no side story or cinematics for them. Their stories are just told as Fate Episodes which are basically audiobook episodes read by the characters with a background image of them, giving a status boost after completion, except for 2 of these episodes per character that allows you to play a scenario in order to unlock a sigil slot.
Some of the endgame best curios-unique sigils' drop rates are so low that makes it is super hard to get them and, so far, there are no seasonal events or anything else that can improve them.
Conclusion:
I usually don’t purchase DLC expansions but, for this game, whatever additional gameplay they release I’m definitely buying it. I can’t wait for more content or a sequel.
None of the cons mentioned above cause any major impact on the gameplay and, overall this game provides sooo much content and fun that I can’t recommend it enough. I’m sure that together with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and very likely Dragons Dogma 2 that are coming soon, will be one of the best games of the year, well, at least for me :)
