Bethesda decided that ripping us off with a fully priced repackage of an old game with a slip of paper containing a code and then calling it a GOTY edition was a great idea. Apparently people on the Beth forums are reporting that the codes don't work either. No where in the marketing or release notes was it revealed that the DLC would be download only. And no where that I can tell, is it revealed on the exterior of the retail packaging. No mention of a download code, no mention that internet is required. I've purchased every Beth game in the last ten years and I've also purchased about every complete/goty version of those games. Every single one came with the DLC on a disk...but not this one and zero effort was made to relay that change to the consumers. I'm considering this an intentional case of deception from Bethesda/Zenimax. Never again, because of this greed, you've lost a long time customer. Congratulations!Update: After getting up this AM I rechecked the box to see if I'd missed something. There is NO mention of a download code. Further research shows that multiple European releases (including Germany and the UK) have a bright red banner on the back stating that the DLC had to be downloaded. Why not put that on the case in the US? So we open the case and then can't return it?Update 2: I've been in contact with both Bethesda and Amazon customer support. As of now Amazon customer support is trying to work with me and I informed them that the publisher likely did not provide them with accurate info for the listing, I was thanked and told that my case would be forwarded to the marketing team. Bethesda on the other hand finally got back to me after 12 hours. My paragraph long explanation/complaint received a response about 2 sentences long saying that they believed my complaint could be marked as "solved" and that unless I need further assistance, the case was closed. Of course I sent a slightly saltier response after this BS response. Don't expect help from Bethesda.Update 3: Received a response from Bethesda's "escalation team." Basically told me they couldn't promise that they could get the DLC issued on discs, but told me they'd contact me with further information soon.Update 4: Bethesda "escalation team" got back to me. Told me that the DLCs were far too large to fit on the single disc (he said like previous goty editions...but the previous Bethesda goty editions had more than one disc, so I'm not sure what he means) and in the interest of not printing more discs, a redeem code was issued instead. I was informed that disc versions will not be released and that I needed to take my console to a friend's house to download the content.So that is Bethesda's response, you better take your junk to a friend's house. I replied and reminded him that the disc was only half the issue, and that the other part was that Bethesda made no effort to disclose that the content was downloaded and not in the package. All of that equates essentially to theft from the consumer after the consumer opens the package and can't return the falsely advertised product.Update 5: Well, after another correspondence with Bethesda's team, I can tell that I'm not going anywhere at all with them. They're essentially ignoring the complaint that their deceptive marketing has left a lot of people with a useless 60 dollar purchase. They just keep telling me that they don't have plans to release the DLC on disc, repeatedly... For myself and the benefit of my fellow consumers, I will continue to investigate this issue.Update 6: As you can now see, Amazon has updated the product description with two additional lines detailing the contents of the package. Thank you for continuing to be an upstanding and favorite retailer!Update 7: I was able to convince amazon, due to incorrect product information, to issue a full refund. YMMV, especially now that they've corrected the product listing. They are offering a fairly generous trade offer close to $37.00 if you want to try and recoupe some funds that way.Update 8: Bethesda customer support has dropped off the face of the earth. Several days ago, they asked for my phone number and a time to call. I gave them the information and then they went dark. I haven't heard anything for days.I have filed complaints with both the Better Business Bureau and the FTC Consumer Protection Bureau.Will update if any new information comes up.
