I own several high end wireless systems so I was a bit skeptical of this one, but figured why not give it a shot. First, if a product advertises it's "Professional" you can be guaranteed it most certainly is not. It's just advertising. Real professional systems usually have little to no advertising on the box. And the box is usually just a plain old brown box. But, I have a nice size PA and a 24 channel mixer so I thought this might be nice to have around just incase I needed a couple more mics. Let me say, I'm actually pretty impressed with this system. I mean, I just got 8 wireless mics for $37.50 each! My single wireless guitar system cost around $1000 (Shure QLX-D) to give some perspective, and they can get into the many thousands of dollars very easily. This system operates in the 500MHz spectrum which is legal in the US. I have seen other systems like this operating in the 600 and 800 MHz spectrum which is illegal in the US. Those frequencies are used for emergency services. The receiver is all metal which is nice to see. It has 4 antennas that are actually resonant. Included is a picture of my antenna analyzer with the antenna on it. SWR was ~2.0:1 across the 500-560MHz bandwidth. Not perfect, but certainly acceptable. Each microphone/channel is assigned its own frequency with its own volume on the receiver. They also have their own dedicated XLR output or you can use the 1/4" jack to sum them all and run the receiver into either a single channel on your mixer, or to a powered speaker, eliminating the need for a mixer, though you won't have any EQ. Turning on the receiver did not produce any kind of noise into my mixer/pa which was nice to see, although you really should have your inputs muted when turning on devices. There is no hum or RF line noise produced by the receiver that I could detect. It's very quiet. The microphones are made of plastic with the only metal on them being the wind screen. They are powered by 2 AA batteries that are not included even though the manual said they were. The bottom unscrews and you insert the batteries which are held in nicely. Underneath the battery cap you can also find the frequency each microphone is transmitting on. To use the mic, there is a simple 3 position switch that you slide all the way up for on, all the way down for off, or in the middle for mute. I found that there wasn't any harsh noise when turning the microphones on either. As far as audio quality, I have to say, I'm very impressed. They sound terrific. Very crisp audio which I was not expecting from a system in this price range. They have a bit of gain which picks up your voice nicely even if it isn't right in front of your mouth, but not too much gain to cause feedback. The front to back rejection is also really good. This is useful in eliminating sounds/noises coming from the back of the microphone capsule (the crowd for example) and only picking up what is in front of the mic. Also useful for reducing/eliminating feedback from floor monitors. If you are expecting a professional mic, this is not it. But for parties, karaoke, that kind of thing, this should work great for you. I can't speak for actual frequency agility if you were in a high RF environment. I would doubt it would fair very well though. You cannot change the frequency of each channel if you are experiencing interference, but you do have 8 channels so if one is being interfered with, you could just use another mic. There's really nothing bad to say about this system. Understanding that you get what you pay for. The only things I would say negatively, and I'm really reaching here, is that while it does come with hardware to mount in a rack if you want, there is no way to mount the antennas to the front of the receiver. You do not want your antennas inside of a rack case. You'd be better off just having this sit on a table or someplace that isn't going to obstruct the line of site from the transmitters to the receiver. Also, the microphones do pick up a bit of handling noise that will come through your speakers so you do need to be a bit more gentle with them, lest you get a bunch of low frequency handling of the mic type rumbles. But it's only $300!! At that price for what you get, I'd say it's a great deal.
