Product Description

Do you have the skill – and nerve – to survive the horrors of a broken world in this massive open world action adventure?

Step into the dirt flecked shoes of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death. Scavenge through abandoned settlements for equipment to craft valuable items and weapons, or take your chances with other survivors trying to eke out a living through fair trade… or more violent means.

With humanity devastated by a global pandemic and ravaged by feral creatures known as Freakers, any mistake could be your last in your attempt to carve out a new life in the hostile Pacific Northwest high desert.

A Dynamic World
Using the power of PlayStation 4 and Unreal Engine 4, Days Gone offers an incredibly realistic and detailed open world action game experience. Vast and hostile environments can be fully explored on the back of Deacon’s drifter bike. Abandoned vehicles can be searched for useful items. Towns and buildings can be entered and searched – at great risk. All lighting is done in real time – eye adaption technology creates a real sense of dread when entering dark buildings; day and night have an impact on the experience; weather affects enemy behavior.

Brutal Sandbox Combat
Exemplifying true, free form gameplay, Days Gone offers freedom to explore, strategize and play “your way.” Every challenge can be approached and completed in an almost infinite number of ways. Many different items and weapons can be crafted using items found in the field, including brutal melee weapons and traps. Customizable weapons and skills offer true freedom in how the game is played.

Unique Enemies
In addition to human drifters, marauders, and other groups, Deacon must face a wilderness overrun by Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving. Freakers have needs, habits and behaviors that the player can learn and adapt to.

Unique Setting
The harsh high desert of the Pacific Northwest offers a large variety of environments in a single geographical area. One minute Deacon can be riding through a pristine forest, a snow field, a lush meadow, and the next, be in the harsh desert lava fields. The hazardous environments, scarred by millions of years of volcanic activity, are defined by ancient lava flows, mountains, caves, cliffs and river basins, delivering a breathtaking backdrop to an equally diverse style of gameplay. Cinnabar mines, lava tube caves and small rural towns offer a variety of environments to explore.

This Game Deserves A Gamer’s Respect
Okay, after seeing so many negative reviews, I felt the need to add my input as an avid PS4 gamer.First of all, don’t EVER expect a masterpiece-I lost count of how many highly anticipated games led me to disappointment. This game is very glitchy, and when I type glitchy, I mean GLITCHY-although, to be honest, most of the glitches were in my favor....It’s important to note that the developer has added several game patches which have helped, and will continue to help, immensely with this issue. And I just have to type that even though some of the glitches have been annoying/frustrating, they brought so much more humor than anything else (see attached photo).Secondly, in my own personal opinion, this is one of those games that awakens emotions. I know, I know. A lot of dissatisfied gamers have commented on this game’s lack of story and character development. This simply is not true. I found that this game very neatly weaved a deep story with relatable characters, and those with an open mind enough to see this won’t be disappointed. I do need to mention though that, initially, I worried that this game was just a remix of past games of its genre, but once you progress through the first couple of missions, you will be happy to find that it slowly eases its way into its own style and grandeur (I LOVED taking on the Hordes-no joke).Thirdly, this game is perfect for those seeking to invest in a lot of gaming time, but not too much. Although I do not live and breathe video games (as much as I may like to), this game took me over two months to complete in its entirety-including the “secret endings”. There are plenty of various side missions and side challenges to entertain you, but not so much as to be labelled the epitome of tedium. In fact, by the end of the game, I only craved more Days Gone.Overall, this game has been a joy to play (and listen to-the soundtrack is AMAZING) and if you, like myself, have played and enjoyed The Last of Us and Uncharted, Days Gone will be a most welcome addition.

The media could not be loaded.
I'll try to keep this review relatively brief, as much of the game's charm is learning the ropes as you go. I find games that don't hold your hand from the beginning to be some of the best games on the market.

Let's start with the GOOD:

- The voice acting is superb (10/10) - a rare feat in today's gaming industry. The characters are extremely well developed. Each character has their own backstory, distict quirks/flaws, as well as redeeming qualities.

......

- Graphics (9/10): It's not as gorgeous as Red Dead Redemption 2, but is very well designed for an open world game. The map is based off a city in Oregon. The setting is very rustic and rural - ranging from a heavily wooded recreational area (camping and lodging), to deserty plains, to snowy mountains. Each offering different weather effects and challenges.

......

- Gameplay (8.5/10): This is probably the most subjective part of my review. This game is a slow-paced, learn-as-you go adventure. Combat is a lot of fun, which is my favorite aspect of this game. Ammo is relatively limited is the sense that you cannot go long stints of fighting without having to replenish. However, ammo is extremely accessible and you will never run out of it, it's just a matter of how much you can carry at a time before having to buy more.

There is also a survival mechanic where you will need to refuel your bike ever so often. This is not a big pain as gas is pretty prevelant and can usually be found on any main road. During my playthrough I may have ran out gas twice, and both times were really exciitng! I had to make my way down a road with limited gear, no chance to escape a giant horde if I happen to come across one, all in hopes to find a tank of gas. This is the best aspect of the game in my opinion. Sometimes there may be very few enemies around and sometimes there may be hundreds, you just never know.

The last gameplay mechanic I was to touch on is the combat. It is a typical 3rd person shooter with a weapon wheel toggle menu to switch between gear. You will be able to hold a *primary* weapon, *sidearm*, and *special* weapon. Each weapon will be designated one of those three tags, so you cannot carry three assault rifles lol.

There are also Throwables- I.e. molotovs, pipe bombs, frag grenades | Defensive Items- I.e flashbang, smoke grenade, attractors | Traps: I.e. proxy mines, bear traps | and Health Items

The game offers a "bullet-time" function which slows down time for easier aiming and concentrating fire. This is called Focus. You can upgrade your overall points in three areas -- Health, Stamina and Focus. Health does not recover over time, you cannot sleep to replenish health and the only means to restore it is using bandages/health syrums/medics. Everything can be crafted using certin ingredients found out in the wilderness. Looters heaven :D

......

- Sound (9/10): The reverb in the game is great. Much of your survival will depend on your attention to sounds (whether it be you making the sounds or hearing sounds around you). If you have stereo surround sound then you be rewarded! Every enemy makes a distict noise and they will be delivered directionally which will help you pin point where a guy might be hiding without being able to see them.

The music is mostly ambient (to help you hear environmental sounds easier) but is also played dynamically. By that I mean it will cue you in on danger up ahead by slowly ramping up and intensifying as you get closer to that danger. It will begin to play when in close proximity to enemies and again will ramp up once you engage with that enemy. The more enemies that are around you the more tense the music will get.

-- Final thoughts --

Days Gone is a beautifully written story with a strong ephasis on character development and emotion. This is a survival game at its core, but is also action-oriented where you can go guns blazing if you wish. I tend to kill everything in sight since I love the combat.

The developers released a COMPLETE game at launch. Very few hardware glitches (if any at all). No bugs - except for one mission - you can look it up on your own if your curious. Nothing serious though, so don't you worry! There are no plans to release any DLC because there really is no need for it. The game is that well designed. I believe they are in the works on making a Days Gone 2, so if you end up enjoying this as much as I did, then you'll be happy to know a sequal is right around the corner :D

There are a few things that I want in a game: reasonably good story, good gun play, decent animation, and more than 20 hours of play. I think that Days Gone fits the bill. While it has some familiarity with other open world/mission based games like the Far Cry series, I thought there was sufficient difference to stand out. If anything, it feels more like Dying Light as there are pros and cons as to when you approach a problem.

The story is fine. Deke's relationships with Sarah and Boozer matter, and the other NPCs are engaging as well. Iron Mike, Addie, Rikki, all have a part of the story to tell and your occasional missions with them don't get in the way. The characters are well animated and the facial expressions add to the stories.

The gun battle is pretty easy on the normal setting, especially once you get your focus levels up (the equivalent of bullet time). But each approach to a battle is different enough. This is especially true of the horde missions which, for me, were the hardest to pull off well and efficiently. Maybe I'm not a great planner. The other shooty stuff is fine. The guns you can choose from are swell but there are no DOOM like super powered armaments. You sort of have to keep tabs on your bullets and reloads, but not unfairly.

The leveling up is pretty easy as well and make the game more fun. I felt like I was constantly having to harvest stuff in Far Cry. Here the burden feels more reasonable aided by the skills tree.

The game is great for the casual gamer - you can play for hours or just run a quick mission. I would guess I have 40 hours in. There is value running further missions after finishing the main story.

I don't love the selection wheel. It's easy to miss what you are looking for in a tight battle, but the focus time helps. Mostly this ran ok on a PS4 slim with the occasional stutter here and there.

I think the game is worth the time and $ involved. It's involving, entertaining, pretty at times, even relaxing (once you get a feel for the motorcycle) and the stakes are pretty low - you don't really lose anything when you die and it isn't all that hard to start with - except the hordes.

Ok so a friend of mine put me into this game. They’re not wrong at all. Everything from the soundtrack to the graphics is amazing. You can be as cautious as you like or get straight up fighting. Be warned tho it can be easy to get surrounded if you don’t keep an eye on the surroundings. From hordes of zombies to crazy crows and insanely fast wolves this game has it all. With a sweet ride that you can personalise and camp jobs to be done for credit it gives a realistic feel to what life would be like if something like this actually happened. The story itself is great (not gonna spoil any of it). It’s more than a mind numbing running around zombie bashing game. You have to strategically plan how you’ll clear enemy camps, critically check you’ve disabled loud speaks to give you a chance of securing loot. You need to think of the environment as well. Is it better to clear a camp during the day or at night? Dry or raining? Especially if you’re short on health and bullets. Let’s face it a un-upgraded 2x4 isn’t going to last long. I haven’t stopped playing it since I got it. From hunting for meat and plants to clearing camps there is always something to do if you don’t want to run main missions.
