About this item
- [Native Matter Support over Thread] As one of the first sensors to support Matter, the P2 supports access to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. (*NOTE: The P2 currently DOESN’T SUPPORT the Aqara Home app but will support it and add more features in the future through the Matter-compatible Aqara border router.) Meanwhile, as a sensor based on the Thread protocol, the P2 provides enhanced connectivity, low-power consumption, more stability and low latency.
- [Open/Closed Status Monitoring] With a built-in high-precision Hall sensor, the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 can detect the opening and closing status of doors, windows, and drawers precisely. Once the sensor is triggered, it will send real-time alert notifications to your smartphone whether you're at home or away, ensuring you're always aware of any potential security concerns. (*Note: the functionality such as automation conditions may vary throughout the different ecosystems.)
- [Local Home Automations] You can integrate the Door and Window Sensor P2 with your smart home ecosystem to enable advanced automations like adjusting thermostat settings or activating security cameras when a door or window is opened. Moreover, the automations are executed without the cloud, which can protect the user’s privacy and will keep working even if there is no internet connection.
- [Voice Alerts and Status Notifications] The Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 supports Apple Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. With these voice assistants, you can receive alerts about events such as door entries, or ask whether a door is open, allowing you to effortlessly monitor your home.
- [Matter Compatibility] A Matter Controller & Thread Border Router 2-in-1 is required to enjoy seamless integration with a Matter-enabled smart home ecosystem. Currently, the following hubs are tested, but new hubs will be added over time. Apple: Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 128 GB), Apple TV 4K (2nd gen), HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod mini | Samsung: SmartThings Hub v3, Aeotec Hub v3, SmartThings Station | Amazon: Echo (4th gen) | Google: Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wi-Fi Pro.
- [Easy Installation & Long Battery Life] With its compact design and adhesive back, the sensor is easily integrated into any interior. Additionally, equipped with a powerful CR123A battery, it provides uninterrupted protection with infrequent replacements.* The battery life may vary depending on the border router and Matter app the sensor is connected to. For best results, the future Aqara border router is advised.

Product Description
-
Entering the Matter Era
The P2 supports Matter natively, and connects directly to the most popular ecosystems and Aqara Home in the near future through the Matter-compatible Aqara Thread border router*.
-
Why Thread Protocol?
Matter Controller or Thread Border Router Support:
To add the P2 to a particular Matter-enabled app, your device or devices will need to have both functionalities, therefore a 2-in-1 Matter Controller & Thread Border Router is needed as a minimum requirement.
-
Always-on Open/Close Detection
Stay informed and secure with real-time notifications on your smartphone whenever the sensor detects activity. You'll never miss a potential security threat, whether you're at home or away.
-
By installing the P2 on a first aid kit, medical professionals can monitor when it is opened, ensuring that it is used appropriately and restocked when necessary.
-
The P2 can also be placed on a safe box in a home or office to alert owners if it is opened by unauthorized personnel, preventing the loss of important documents, cash, or valuables.
-
Maximizing Efficiency with Voice Assistants
You can receive alerts, or ask about whether a door is open, keeping you on top of things at home.
-
The sensor is easy to install with its strong sticker and an alternative flat magnet.
-
Equipped with a powerful CR123A battery, it provides uninterrupted protection.
-
Additional Features via OTA
Settings through the Aqara Home app will be expanded with the future launch of the Hub M3.
Save the energy when the door or window is open
IF Door and Window Sensor P2 is opened
THEN Turn off the thermostat to reduce energy consumption and your carbon footprint
No more lights suddenly turning off
IF Door and Window Sensor P2 is opened (i.e. the toilet cover was opened, which indicates that the toilet is used)
THEN Deactivate the automation "Turn off the light if no motion was detected for 2 minutes"

Since both were not working I figured it was something with my network. Turns out my mesh router (Google Nest Wifi Pro) was conflicting with my router (whatever ATT gave me). The ATT router had its WiFi signals enabled for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz so when the set up was happening, it was picking up both WiFi connections from my phone. I disabled the signals from the ATT router, and they still weren't working, but I wanted to try a third just in case, and it magically connected easily.
Since that started working, I wanted to troubleshoot the other two that were still having issues. I figured hat during the setup, the devices remembered the settings so I needed a way to reset them and start fresh. I saw a video from their YouTube account that you can factory reset if you press the button 10 times.
Once I did that, both connected easily.
I bought 13 of these and never had an issue setting up the other 11 after the network issue / factory reset took place. They are easy to set up and don't get in the way.
Finally I used the extra magnets that came with each device on my fridge, lol.
This is a pretty good product! I pull it out of the box. Set up a new device in google home. Scan the QR code. Wait a minute for google to finish the set up. Stick it where it needs to be stuck. Reapply it with some duck tape after the sensor fell off a few minutes after I set it. Yeah, the adhesion is great... after the glue has had time to set properly. So far that first time was the only time it's fallen off in the month that I've had it. So you just need to make sure that it is supported in some way for at least a few hours to a full day and it should be good after that.
The software experience was almost dumb in how simple it was, which is exactly how a smart home device should be. It should be as close to plug-and-play as possible. The Matter standard makes this semi-feasible. I needed it to have matter for a different reason though. The long and short of it is that I don't have access to 2.4 ghz wifi, only 5ghz. So any smart device I get has to be able to connect to my nest hub in some way. Previously this meant scrouring for the rare smart devices that could connect to it with Bluetooth. But now that Matter is getting into the swing of things I actually have some options. And through matter its actually faster to respond than my old wifi and bluetooth devices! The bad news with that is that Matter is still a very new standard. With that come a few trade offs:
1. you need a matter hub
2. The new tech tax is certainly in effect here.
While I'll take having an expensive option over having none at all. 30 dollars for a door sensor is pretty steep. (I got it on a black friday sale for around 20 though so keep checking if you want to save some money) But thats just something that comes with the territory I guess. So far all of the matter devices I'v bought have been more expensive than non matter counterparts. I'm sure as time goes on Matter will get support accross the spectrum of smart devices and prices will go down as the tech matures. But for right now we are still in the early adopter phase and you'll be expected to pay a little more..
As far as the sensing part of things. It works. That's about it. It actually comes with 2 magnets which is nice. A pretty, white pill-looking one. As well as a flat, plain metal one that you can use instead of the pill if your situation demands a smaller profile. I do wish they would have put some way of knowing where the sensor needs to line up with the magnet to get it to work so that I didn't have to experiment with alignment as much. But that's a more minor gripe.
Even non-techies will find the setup of the P2 Sensor easy to accomplish. A warning to the wise, do not remove the sticky tabs until you understand exactly where on the doors the sensor is to be placed. I thought I had them positioned correctly until I realized I would pull the sensor off if I opened the door. I had to pull both parts of the sensor off my door to reposition them, but since the adhesive side is so sticky, I had to pull hard! They grip so well, that I can see them lasting for a lifetime of use.
I've added the Aqara P2 Sensors and a Kasa Switch garage light switch to the home Apple ecosystem. With the two, I was able to create an automation that instantly turned the Kasa switch on when my Aqara P2 door sensor was triggered and turned off the lights 10 minutes later. I was amazed at how fast the Aqara P2 was able to turn on the Kasa light switch! I had to slowly open the door to see if the lights were actually off, otherwise, it looked like the lights were on before I opened the door it was so fast.
This and the ability to ask "Siri, turn off the garage lights" is a huge win!
In theory, these are great. I really like the idea of Matter and Thread as a manufacturer independent standard. Sure, commissioning devices is laughably slow and complicated compared to ZWave or (blech) Zigbee, and sometimes randomly fails... I have a degree in networking and can handle that.
But where it all falls apart is reliability. For no reason, after a few days or weeks, 2 of my sensors (one of which is in spitting distance to the router) routinely disappear. Sometimes they reconnect on their own, sometimes I have to push the button to get them to reconnect, sometimes they won't reconnect unless I take the battery out and replace it.
The 3 others work fine, as do Thread devices from Eve, so presumably this is a hardware QC issue and not a design issue with this sensor or Matter/Thread in general.
Can't recommend them for anything that needs to be reliable, like an alarm system.
Top reviews from other countries
First, the integration with HomeKit was seamless and incredibly easy. Within minutes, I had it up and running, effortlessly syncing with my existing smart home setup. The sensor is highly responsive, providing instant feedback and ensuring my lights respond the moment I open or close the door.
Installation was a breeze too. The compact design and clear instructions made it simple to set up, for anyone regardless of skill level. The quality and reliability of this sensor are outstanding, making it a perfect addition to any smart home.
Overall, I highly recommend the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 for anyone looking to enhance their home automation system. It delivers on its promises and adds a level of convenience and efficiency that's hard to beat!
