The controller design is great - the interchangeable magnetic sticks are very clever and the triggers on the reverse side make it the perfect gaming controller. Unfortunately, it costs an absolute fortune compared to everything else on the market.

Now I don't mind this if I get value for money but sadly the bluetooth connection for gaming is appalling. Every 2 - 3 minutes it will cut out for just a few seconds then reconnect. Ample time for you to get shot in the head when playing FPS online.

There is a solution (well in fact two solutions) - the first of which is to play with it plugged in, but given this is a very expensive WIRELESS controller that is a total non-starter. The second is to spend yet MORE money on a wireless 2.4Ghz adaptor that plugs into a usb on your laptop. Instant fix.

BUT - given the price of the controller in the first place, I would expect the bluetooth to work properly and I would NOT expect to have to pay out more money for a wireless adaptor to actually make it work. A dongle which indidentally is not of the miniturised variety, so not something you can just leave plugged into your laptop as you carry it about.

I did send the first one back for a replacement to check it wasn't faulty to no avail, lots of advice about making sure the firmware is up to date on microsoft FAQs (duh - first thing I did before I even used it). My laptop is also brand new, top of the range and there is nothing wrong with the bluetooth connection on any other of the several devices I use with it, such as the keyboard I am typing this review on right now.

I was tempted to give it 2 stars frankly rather than 3 owing to this issue and the price of it, but now it's working, it is a great bit of kit. Just infuriating at this price I then have to go and buy another product to make it actually work properly. If you are looking at this controller and want to buy it - be prepared to have to buy the dongle as well, linked below (make sure it is this one you buy as there is another one on Amazon that's a Chinese knock off and actually costs more) -

So that's £155 for the controller PLUS another £22 for the wireless adaptor/dongle. A lot of money, but I suppose worth it in the end.
