Awaken your power and protect the land!

You are the Luminary, the hunted hero who will protect the land from destruction in the latest RPG from the iconic DRAGON QUEST series. With a ragtag band of adventurers, you’ll engage in well-balanced, turn-based battles and embark on quests across the kingdom of Erdrea. Forge gear, develop party members’ skills, and alter their outfits without changing gear in this edition of the game! This version also lets you ride and attack with monsters on the field to earn experience points, as well as change between HD or 16-bit visuals, symphonic or synth music, and English or Japanese audio. Complete the tale with new character-focused stories, and travel to past DRAGON QUEST worlds!

Across the land, you’ll meet the mysterious Tockles—creatures that allow you to visit 2D, 16-bit versions of areas from popular entries in the series like DRAGON QUEST IV and DRAGON QUEST VIII! It’s fun to see these classic worlds reimagined in retro style, meshing perfectly with the main game’s 2D mode. Like all past DRAGON QUEST games, this one’s character designs are based on the signature style of famed artist Akira Toriyama. Paired with the voiced dialogue, the rich personalities of your most loyal companions and fiercest enemies are brought to life, so you can fully immerse yourself in this quest to discover the Luminary’s true heritage and awaken your power. For a greater challenge, start the game with the Draconian Quest setting, and capture your favorite moments with Photo Mode!

Probably the best 3rd party game on the Switch (and pushing some 1st party ones for the crown of best game) and that is not an exaggeration. The quality of the port is phenomenon, currently 80 hours in and have at least another 10 hours of post game to play without finishing all side quests. No noticeable performance issues and while resolution can be blurry, the quality of texture and character models look fantastic in handheld (and better in docked)

Content wise, it is exactly what you'd expect from a JRPG. It has all the cliche things that make or break a JRPG but nothing completely over the top and certainly suitable for western audiences. I've found the lore and world building aspect of the game fantastic and gripping. I never played a DQ game before, I am now a fan.

Levelling up can be a bit of a grind as your character becomes stronger but the game allows you to "auto" battle with a very intelligent A.I. system selecting the moves each character of your party makes and provides the ability to speed up combat if you wish. You can walk up to an enemy and let the game take over from there.

If you're looking for a time sink which offers a great story, performance and more importantly reward a 3rd party studio for taking pride in porting a game to Switch. This is it!

Having been a lover of the genre since the Super Nintendo days, I honestly thought that I was done with JRPGs. They started to grate on me with the over use of exposition and busywork.

This game is NOT like that at all. It's fun, it's charming, funny and very very well put together. You'd think that from the cartoony graphics it's going to be visually basic like a lot of lower budget JRPGs being churned out. Instead, it feels incredibly high budget with fully animated, realistic movements. Unlike the stiff, tanky animations you might see in a game by Nihon Falcom.

You can have the full experience of the game (in my opinion) within 80 hours of gameplay, or continue with the epilogue to add another 50 hours (or so I hear). I personally liked how the game ended after 80 hours so did not continue to play, but enjoyed my experience so much that I bought this again for my young nephew. I felt that he should experience something great like this in his youth, so that his only experience of gaming isn't just Brain Training, Animal Crossing and Mario Kart.

Dragon Quest XI - There's no debate amongst any group of people that this is the best game in the highly celebrated series. The graphics are superb and the content is almost never ending. I can't begin to imagine hour many years I must have taken to make a game this size. Just when you think you're nearing the end of the game, you'll realise you're not even halfway through.
Any grinding that's required of an RPG is immediately scaled down when you realise you can increase the battle speed. If you could fight 2 battles every 5 minutes before, you'll be able to fight 10 battles every 5 minutes now.

There's so much to write, but it's easier to for you, the reader, to buy this gem and experience its wonders first hand.

I am a huge fan of the DQ series, having started with Dragon Quest 5 on the SNES. To be honest I prefer the remake of that and Dragon Quest 9 on the DS to this game. I will tell you why. Late in the game you need to do extremely well at the 2nd casino in order to progress the game. I was mortified by this because doing well at the casino's in previous games had always been OPTIONAL and it should of stayed like that. You can't even buy casino tokens at the 1st casino to help yourself effectively buy the essential item So after playing the game for 200 hours I have given up on it without completing it. Making it the only dragon quest game I've played that I haven't completed which is very disappointing.

However up to that point I would have called this one of the best games ever made. Just be prepared for later on if you do buy this (and I recommend you do) for the game to go in some frustratingly uncharted waters (for a DQ game) far into it. Of course if you have enjoyed the casino's in earlier games, being forced to play the 2nd one won't bother you. This is an outstanding game but frustratingly not for everyone.

A must buy for the Switch

I have never played any of the games in this series, i'm a total Noob when it comes to Dragon Quest. This game is fantastic and worth your time.

With the trend of modern games loaded with super, turbo, maximum, ultimate deluxe editions and so forth, season passes, coins, space bucks, gems, silver and the other hundred micro transactions that they add on. its sad to say that its a rarity to find a game that has so much content with no additional money needed.

I have put in 90+ hours and i have still not fully finished the game. The game has a wounder full rich story, a wonderful art style by Akira Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z) and tons of items, costumes, weapons and customisation.

It's a story base RPG, so if you don't like RPG's then you might not like this. There is a free demo on the Switch store so you can try it for free to see if you like it. That's how i tried this out, liked it and made the purchase.

I love Akira Toriyama's art style and video games so getting this was a no brainer. The game has a good story but doesn't require my full attention so it's great for getting comfy and unwinding.
