• I have a site hosted by bluehost. Logged in to bluehost account and clicked “edit site”. WordPress launched and I got the following lines of text at the top of the page:

    Notice: fread(): read of 8192 bytes failed with errno=21 Is a directory in /home1/addisow5/public_html/wp-includes/pomo/streams.php on line 189

    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home1/addisow5/public_html/wp-includes/pomo/streams.php:189) in /home1/addisow5/public_html/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 9

    Skip to main content
    Skip to toolbar

    I then clicked on Website Builder and it wouldn’t load. Contacted bluehost support and was told (after much time) it was a compatibility issue with the builder and the dashboard , said I could try web developer and then directed me to WP support, where I was told that, since my account was a free account, they couldn’t help me; unless I paid for a WordPress Live subscription and try the forums.

    Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Hello, addisonradioplayers, & welcome.

    I’m curious–do you have any plugins installed on that site? Perhaps try temporarily disabling them & see if the error persists. You can then begin reactivating them 1 by 1, starting w/the ones made by the WordPress community and testing after each try in order to find the culprit. I also suspect that the web builder & WordPress are mutually exclusive, meaning that you can use 1 or the other but not both for the same site. I’m not sure of that, because I don’t know all that much about Bluehost (as I provide hosting myself), but that’s what I suspect. You might need to reinstall WordPress w/o the website builder.

    At any rate, best wishes for success w/your site.

    Hi and thanks for reaching out! Sorry to hear that you are getting error messages when accessing your dashboard and we wanted to provide some helpful information to get that sorted out for you.

    To address the header error, you would need to turn on output_buffering within the site’s php.ini using cPanel > MultiPHP INI Editor > Editor Mode and add the following line:
    output_buffering = on

    To address the fread error, you may want to check your core files and run an update.

    As for issues with logging into the Website Builder, we suggest reaching out to our support teams for guidance. They may need to get a case escalated so that our Admins can review further. If you already have a case and need some assistance expediting it further, you can reach out to our support team via social media here:

    We hope this information helps and look forward to any updates or responses!
