• I’m using WPML and WordPress. WordPress automatically sets the default category for each post and even if I remove it, it keeps coming back and/or being displayed on the website even though it is not part of the category archive.

    Example: https://www.xtgamer.de/2023/11/25/sub-watch-november-2023-neue-games-in-ps-xgp-nso-co/

Default category at the time of posting was “gamescom”. In the edit screen of the post this category is not selected, yet it shows up on the website and also in the backend in the posts listed on “wp-admin/edit.php”.

  • All posts have to have a category. You can choose the default WordPress sets under settings -> default post category

Thanks Lukasz. That’s not the issue. The issue is that this default category even gets set when I manually set another category and I can’t remove it because in the checkboxes in the editor it’s not selected, but still shows up on the home and post pages (not in the category archive though).
