The emails are sporadic; I received one every ten minutes for a while this morning, then none for a time, then one every ten minutes between 15:15 and 18:05. (My cron runs every five minutes, so there is no correlation there.) I would’ve expected another at 18:15 (a few minutes ago) but didn’t receive anything.
I made the changes you requested. Is there a specific activity I can take on the website which might provoke this error, if it’s still apparent?
It can occur when trying to extract a tar archive. Apart from that I’m not too sure. The bundled PEAR libraries are not used for much in Matomo.
You could try manually updating the GeoIp Db in the Matomo Analytics > Diagnostics > Troubleshooting
page.
It’s also possible that the underlying error was something that could be ignored internally. If you don’t see any further reports, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Thanks for the tip. I haven’t received an email since 18:05 yesterday and updating the GeoIp Db gave no message and didn’t generate an email. I’ll monitor the site for a few days and see if the problem recurs.

Confirming (as per our emails) that I am not currently receiving emails containing the error “PEAR_Error���.
