When users register they are unapproved by default. So if you don’t want them to have access to your site you can either leave them unapproved or delete the user.

I suppose there is no notification that they receive when they don’t get approved or deleted. Maybe something to improve the plugin with in the future.

Yes that’s exactly my problem, need to have mail if we unnaproved user (but no delete them)

Could you help me understand why you’d want to keep a user unapproved but not delete them?

Maybe need to have 3 status : pending, approved and unnaproved.
    only approved will access website.
when click on approv, get mail approved, when click unnaprov, get mail unnaproved

    better ?

    I like that!

My expectation was that folks would just delete users if they didn’t want to give them access to their site. I’m curious why you prefer to keep them unapproved?

I’m genuinely interested and would like to learn, so I can better understand use cases for this plugin!

    Two reasons :
    – send mail to inform user about his registration

    • in our website, registration is like “candidacy” so user can send more information to have an approuved account

I see! That’s really helpful, thank you.

I’ll work on adding that third status. Can’t promise anything on timing, but hopefully soon.

And if you want an other update, add fields to modify objects of mails 😉

    Thanks a lot !

Also looking for this for our website.

@obenland – is the “Unapprove Email” field on the WP Admin > Settings > Approve User page not actually utilized in your plugin at this time?

(If so, why is it there?)

The email gets sent out when a user gets deleted and the option to send it out is activated.

Ah, that isn’t intuitive. Would be best to include a tooltip next to that form field title explaining that.

Also, if I “Unapprove” a user after Approving them, that “Unapprove Email” in Settings does NOT get sent out. Shouldn’t it?

Maybe you should have another option on that Settings > Approve User page for “Rejection Email” along with a “Reject” button on the Users page.

The opposite of Approving a User is Rejecting them.

Unapproving is more of an edge-case where you need to reverse a previously Approved member (ban them, kick them out).

I’ve also just confirmed that the “Unapprove Email” does NOT actually get sent when an Unapproved User is deleted, so it seems there’s a bug with the plugin there.

First of all, Konstantin, thanks for the great and simple plugin. Of course our secound communication to you will be for a feature request to ensure WP Approve User does not stay simple.

That said, we’re keen to have an “Declined” category so we can keep a permanent record of spam registrations (bbPress) and never let them register again. Otherwise, we might have to process and delete the same spammer five times.

We’re working on a fork in GitHub (1. to auto-generate user passwords to allow us not to send login details to be a candidate user until approval 2. to detect if the sign-up is via a successful EDD purchase in which case there is auto-approval). We could do some work on a Declined category which would mean any comments or forum posts from previously declined candidates would result in a message

I'm sorry but you are unable to post on this website.

We thought of just sending the posts and comments of Declined Users straight to trash, but in the extremely rare case that a real user has been blocked, the error message gives him/her enough notice to attempt to contact the site publisher via a contact form (no direct link) or via Twitter or via email.

We’re open to other, better ideas on what to do with Declined Users. What we know for sure is that we’d like to keep a list of Declined Users, whether that’s in the main WordPress Users table or a dedicated table.
