  • This is too much annoying when you try to upload an image to wordpress website and it get failed every time. If someone is still facing this proble, click here to try this fix, it worked for me.

Yeah that doesn’t work for me.

That’s quite disappointing to hear, but it worked for me dude!

What an absolute nightmare. few days ago it all worked fine now cant upload any images. tried plug in nothing. tried downgrading wordpress to 5.2.5 now getting HTTP Error

rafiarshad (@rafiarshad) what does a link to a site that shortens your links have to do with this topic? how can it possibly solve this issue?

Well, today I just decided to try uploading a photo to see what happened. Still in my Safari browser. Didn’t add any new plugins or try uploading to the uploads folder via FTP. Just went back to Media/Library/Upload. Annnnnnd it worked. Inexplicably, I can now upload images just fine. I didn’t get a notice that WP had updated or done any kind of bug fix, so I am just as clueless as when I started trying to get around this issue two days ago.

Bizarre. I am sorely tempted to move platforms at this point, because WP has become so hit and miss lately. 🙁

@polinay dear it’s not just a link to website dear, this is the fix which worked for me.. That’s why I shared it here.

rafiarshad (@rafiarshad) what i missing ? its just a link to a website that has nothing to do with the topic.

I’ve been monitoring this thread for a while and trying to “get to the bottom of it”. There are three types of errors when uploading images:

    1. JavaScript errors. Some of these were caused by couple of plugins that (I believe) are now updated. A test and workaround is to go to the Media Library screen, switch to list view, then go to Add New, and click on the link in “Try the browser uploader instead”. This will display a simple uploading form with only a “Choose File” button and an “Upload” button that doesn’t use js at all. It will also show the maximum upload file size as set on your server. Try to upload the same image that failed. If it works, the problem is with js. Perhaps try disabling plugins that add some functionality to the media library or switch to one of the default themes to confirm if it is coming from the theme.

    2. Insufficient server resources while post-processing images. Usually happens when the server is busy while trying to upload images, or when your hosting account has restricted resources. Previously this triggered the “HTTP Error” message. In WP 5.3 the message was replaced with “Post-processing of the image failed…”. This generally means that there was a fatal error on the server while or after an image was uploaded. To test: upload a smaller image, max 300-400 pixels width and height. That will reduce significantly the server resources used for post-processing. If it still fails and the error message is the same, this means the error on the server was perhaps caused by a plugin or the theme. Try disabling plugins that may be “doing something” with uploaded images and/or switch to one of the default themes to confirm.

Note that from version 5.3 WordPress handles cases of “HTTP 500 Internal Server Error” while uploading and post-processing images. It retries the post-processing up to five times. Of course if all attempts fail, the upload would fail too. In older WP versions that would have shown the dreaded “HTTP Error” message immediately.

    3. Server settings. As previously posted here there are several server settings that control the size of uploaded files. Generally you shouldn’t be concerned with these settings, the hosting company should be able to change/fix them. To test: upload a small file (by file size).

In the second and third case if would be very helpful to look at the PHP and web server error logs in order to pinpoint the problem. The error log(s) may be accessible from the hosting control panel, or you may need to email your hosting company and ask them to find the errors.

If the errors are coming from WordPress (PHP) they are most likely caused by a plugin or the theme. Please start a new thread here in order to get them fixed. If the errors are with the web server settings, the hosting company would usually fix them.

It is also possible that some errors are caused by a rare “edge case” bug in WordPress. In this case having the error log entries would help in reproducing and fixing it.

getting similar errors trying to upload animated gifs console is saying 403

ran some updates working now 😛

I used Disable “BIG Image” Threshold Plugin this morning and the problem was resolved 🙂

Got this error when uploading a 4kb SVG image.

Logged out and re-login fixed the issue.

I too am receiving the “post processing of the image failed…” error message when attempting to upload photos. I have done many things in an attempt to troubleshoot, but please note I am totally an “amateur” blogger and I have very basic skills!

I have cleared my cache/browsing history
I have reviewed all of my plug-ins and verified they are all up-to-date
I have attempted to upload the photos by going through “Media -> Add New” as well as from within the Media Library.
I have also attempted to upload an image from within a new blog post.

None of these things have fixed the issue. The photos I am attempting to upload are over 2500 pixels, but this has never been an issue for me before. I have previously uploaded photos with well over 6k pixels, no problem.

If anyone has ANY advice on how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it! I have new blog posts that I have to get published and feel that I am essentially dead in the water at this point.

I used WP Downgrade to go back to WP Core version 5.2.5 and the issue immediately went away.

I’m convinced that WordPress Core’s new “big image” handling feature, which was implemented beginning with version 5.3, is somehow broken.

I had already tried to fix this by clearing all server caches, and checking error log and debug log (nothing showed at all regarding today’s date). Nothing helped except downgrading.

Again, here’s the page (with discussion) about the new feature:

Introducing handling of big images in WordPress 5.3

Summary: I think this new feature broke our multisite (no way to upload big images), and downgrading WordPress Core to 5.2.5 fixed the issue.

    WordPress Core Team, please help!

hi all i spent a lot of time fixing the media upload issue i have a cyberpanel v1.9 install on centos7 after disable modsecurity on cyberpanel dashboard and reload litespeed webserver the images can be uploaded again on newest wordpress 🙂
