When an Editor is editing an already published page or post, when they click Submit for Review, then it goes into draft mode.
We want it in published mode with the old content only the new content will go for review by site admin, once the admin approves it the published page/post’s content will be updated with the new one and if it’s rejected then it will remain published with the old content.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

What plugin are you using to add “submit for review” to WP?

We are using User Role Editor plugin to assign permission. As Editor role does not have the permission to publish page, It’s showing submit for review and when editor submits the page goes to draft mode.

When I log into my own test site as an editor, I don’t see “submit for review” as an option, just “save” when editing a site. There’s some other plugin you’re using. Publishpress, perhaps?

Steven Stern (sterndata) , We were using  User Role Editor plugin only to assign permission you can check in the below screenshots I have attached for you to check how the flow works, You can edit the permission and uncheck the publish page permission after that submit for review will be shown if it’s still not showing then after clicking the publish button it will show it and does not allow you for publish and switch it to draft mode.

In general, does WordPress allow user (whichever role he has) to edit an existing page, send for approval, and yet not changing the page’s status to Draft/Unpublished.

Because the page that he is editing is open to public and can’t be unpublished.

When the administrator reviews the changes and decided to approve it, system will then replace the changes in the edited page.

Of course a user can edit an existing page, and existing pages can be set to draft mode as well. https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/roles-and-capabilities/

Your screen shot is concerning — do you really have 29 plugins needing an update?

I recommend asking at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/user-role-editor/#new-post so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

I believe you misunderstood my question. I was asking if there is a solution or method where I can set an Editor to edit an existing page, submit for review BUT NOT changing the page status from Published to Draft / Unpublished. Currently whenever an Editor edits and save the page, it will change the page to Draft / Unpublished. I need the page to appear in the website.

We have tried many methods, customisation and third-party plugins but still we are not able to achieve it. Therefore, I am writing to WordPress team to understand if my desired process mentioned earlier is achievable in WordPress? If yes, I seek your help to let me know the steps or plugin(s) I can use.
