Sidebar won’t go after removing get_sidebar from index.php

A bit strange this:

I removed <php? get_sidebar (); ?> from index.php and yet sidebar.php is still being called and displayed.

Especially odd as I’m using a very basic bare-bones theme (in fact “bones” theme), with a just a single home page.

I can only assume sidebar.php is being called elsewhere, it’s certainly present in functions.php, but so far messing about with that has only resulted in a broken theme.

Any ideas?
