I do not get any notification mail with operation logs as usual although the option is selected (and not only if error occurs).
The log file itself doesn’t list it tried to send the mail (missing in log).

How can I troubleshoot this ? All other plugins sent mail without any problem.
I have another site where I test Ultradraft and no problem to send the notification mail…

    Thanks for any hint

    Hi,

You said that email worked for you, but now it is not working anymore, and I can assure you we changed nothing regarding how email notification works.

So with information I have right now it is not really possible to provide you an answer.

BackWPup does not use anything special to send email, but just the WordPress functionality: if WordPress is able to send emails, BackWPup should be able as well.

Which version of the plugin are you using? If not using last version, can you confirm that updating to last version the issue is still there?

Can you confirm that the option “Send email with log only when errors occur during job execution.” is unchecked?

Have you checked the spam folder?

    Hello,

I strongly suspect the hosting service (EvxOnline) being picky with their outgoing mail settings (I can hardly blame them for that but they could clearly publish updated how-to…).

Reason I am writing this is that no mail were sent from my WordPress previously and I solved the problem by installing a SMTP plugin (WP-Mail_SMTP) and now WordPress and all plugins but BackWPup send email successfully.

I use BackWPup version 3.3.7 and “Send email with log only when errors occur during job execution.” is unchecked.

One hint could be that WP-Mail-SMTP has option “Send all WordPress emails via SMTP” selected; I have no idea how this plugin traps all mails.
I didn’t change any other settings when I installed that SMTP plugin.
I use hosting smtp server for outgoing mails (settings done within SMTP plugin).

What more info could I provide to troubleshoot that problem ?
I am happy with your good plugin, it is doing the job properly; would be just nice to be notified as I was before…

I mentioned I test Ultra-Draft on another site but BackWPup successfully allowed me to migrate my WordPress from a hosting to another one; this is still to be proven with any other (for me of course)…
    Understand that I prefer BackWPup… 🙂

    Hello,

I tried to execute an operation with “Mise au Point (non-traduit)” but no trace of any try to send a mail…

    Eric

PS: The other plugin I test is UpDraftPlus free, not UltraDraft… As mentioned, I prefer your plugin hence my reporting here to get back notification working…

Hi @ecollart, BackWPup’s use of wp_mail is quite simple and standard. My only guess is that the SMTP server is flagging it for some reason.

There are some plugins and services out there that can be used to increase mail delivery. One good one I personally use is MailGun, but there are others. My suggestion would be to try one of those and see if it works for you.

    First, thanks for your reply

I think the mailing system works fine, thanks to WP-Mail_SMTP plugin, because I correctly receive all mails from various plugins but from BackWPup what is quite strange…

I have no justification to use Mailgun for just about 10 to 15 mails a month especially when all works fine; again only missing notification is from BackWPup as far as I know…
Other plugins sending mail properly are Wordfence, MailPoet, Comment approved.
I also use WP Mail Logging but this one doesn’t show mails from MailPoet nor BackWPup.

Is there any debug mode or trace level I can activate to get a chance to see what happens ?

    Thanks for willing to help

@ecollart, if you enable WP_DEBUG, do you get any errors?

    Hello,

I don’t know what changed but I received the notification for the last backup !
A plugin was removed but I unfortunately do not remember which one (is there any log for that) but I guess it was conflicting with BackWPup for the mail…

If the problem comes back, I have no idea how to enable WP_DEBUG but I should find from community…

Marking problem as solved, sorry for not being able to give conflicting plugin name…I should use a logbook for what I do on my WordPress site even if it is a small one.

Thanks to Giuseppe and Brandon for trying to help…
