• So i’m seeking some help after I screwed up my site by trying to migrate a previously working wordpress site to another domain.

the working site was and i wanted to migrate to another domain(www.henlongmarket.com) already owned under the same host.

Now neither are working and I’m not sure where to even start fixing this issue…

    Please help!

  • What did you do to try and make that change? The first things to do is try and fix that and get the site working on the “old” domain and then look at making the actual change.

i believe i moved all the files under the new domain folder.

I tried to move them back but now all i see is the files when i go to the website. www.hlmarket.ca Not sure what i should do at this point…

Something has added ‘.1’ to all of the file names in the home directory.

You can see that the files are (an an example) ‘index.php.1’ instead of ‘index.php’.

This is something that you’d need to ask your hosting company about.

And you do need to get that sorted out quickly. Mainly because your wp-config.php file is accessible so anyone can steal your database connection details, which is a bad thing. I’d recommend that you change the database password when you get this all sorted out just in case anyone does come across this.

i think it’s because i tried to install WordPress again out of panicking and uploaded new wordpress files again?

is it as simple as renaming the files? or would that mess it up more?

Renaming the files will help for now, but I’m not sure how many files have been affected, so if it’s a brand-new installation it might be better off removing everything there. Just be 100% sure that you’re not deleting anything from your “real” site.

omg thank god, so our old domain is working now www.hlmarket.ca

was wondering how we can successfully migrate the site this time

The “easy” way is to follow this guide:

    https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/upgrade/migrating/#changing-the-site-url

You did mention before that you have a different home folder set up for the other domain. If that’s the case you could either copy the site files to the new folder or remove that folder and redirect the new domain name to your existing sites folder. You might need to talk to your hosting company about this to find out what’s needed.

When you’ve got that done you can change the URL, again using the same link above.
