    I installed this plugin, activated maintenance mode, and then deactivated the plugin. I expected that deactivating would also deactivate maintenance mode, but it didn’t. I had to reactivate the plugin and then turn maintenance mode off before disabling.

    This issue is caused by 3rd party cache. Either handled by some plugin or your hosting company. If it happens again please make sure to empty/prune the cache.
