I checked your site, and I see your site is indeed properly connected to WordPress.com again. Your subscribers are there as well. You should be able to see them all here:
https://wordpress.com/subscribers/
If you publish a new post, it will be sent to all your subscribers by default.
If you’d like to display that number of subscribers next to the subscription form, I would recommend editing the Subscribe block under Appearance > Customize > Widgets, and clicking the checkbox to display the subscribers count in the block settings.

Thank you for looking, Jeremy. I managed to get it sorted after my initial panic.
I wondered about the subscriber numbers so thanks for that too.

I have had the exact same problem as BevG above ” My original subscription form has disappeared along with 500 subs.” after a server upgrade. I am unable to find a way to re- set up a new subscription form let alone recover the subscriber list . The site I need help with is : http://wavesandwater.org/site/
